Description: Our Story:In the late nineties, a beautiful event planner from Brittany met a young, American chef from New York. Before long they married and their union produced first a daughter and then a culinary revolution in Brooklyn, New York. Locals flocked to Loulou, their first French bistro, as much for chef Bill's lusty cuisine, as Christine's gracious charm. Before long, Loulou beget Cocotte, another French eatery that drew crowds. Other chefs followed them, lining the streets near the Snells' restaurants with all manner of eateries. The couple turned their sights on a life-long dream: to own an inn and restaurant in Vermont. The Snells purchased the well-regarded Roland's Place in New Haven, Vermont in July 2009, changing its name to Tourterelle to reflect its romantic theme as a serene restaurant, inn, and venue for special occasions.

Attentive and knowledgeable service, superb food. And all this during the chaos of Middlebury College graduation weekend. Only question mark: very pricey. Prepare for NYC rates in rural VT!

While we live but a short distance away, it is one of the most warming and relaxing places to dine that is not in Middlebury proper. Menu can feel limited for some but the quality of the food is very good. Unique cocktail / martini list and the full tables on weekend nights since opening speak to the warm smile with which you are always greeted and welcoming atmosphere, followed consistently with and excellent service that you will receive while you are there

Just 6 miles outside of Middlebury, Vermont, this charming restaurant offers genuine hospitality and warmth along with excellent creative cuisine. You immediately feel welcome upon arrival, the soft colors, decor and wood fire set the stage, which the service staff follow up on with sensitive service and efficiency. Then the food arrives, wow! The high quality of the fresh Vermont ingredients shines through the impressive preparation, which is done with a delicate touch and thoughtful blending of flavors and textures. This last visit I enjoyed Trout with Hazelnuts on pureed Sweet Potato and wilted Spinach highlighted by a clarified butter sauce with just a hint of garlic. Wonderful! If you are in the Middlebury/Burlington area it is worth the trip!

This is a lovely resturant with excellent food, delightful staff but I knew it was too good to be true in this part of Vermont. Please, clean your stinky, filthy, bathrooms! No excuse. Makes me wonder about the food. YUK!

We live about 20 miles away and make the trip to Tourterelle a few times each year. Elegant country dining in a nice setting. The bouiliabasse is a personal favorite, as are the crepes. The wine list is only ok - a bit limited. One word of caution ... There is a function room out back, where they sometimes host weddings and the like. It can be a bit noisy and busy if there's a function going on. If you're going to Tourterelle on a Saturday, you might ask about functions.
