Description: Our Story:In the late nineties, a beautiful event planner from Brittany met a young, American chef from New York. Before long they married and their union produced first a daughter and then a culinary revolution in Brooklyn, New York. Locals flocked to Loulou, their first French bistro, as much for chef Bill's lusty cuisine, as Christine's gracious charm. Before long, Loulou beget Cocotte, another French eatery that drew crowds. Other chefs followed them, lining the streets near the Snells' restaurants with all manner of eateries. The couple turned their sights on a life-long dream: to own an inn and restaurant in Vermont. The Snells purchased the well-regarded Roland's Place in New Haven, Vermont in July 2009, changing its name to Tourterelle to reflect its romantic theme as a serene restaurant, inn, and venue for special occasions.

“Vermont Hospitality with French Charm”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Just 6 miles outside of Middlebury, Vermont, this charming restaurant offers genuine hospitality and warmth along with excellent creative cuisine. You immediately feel welcome upon arrival, the soft colors, decor and wood fire set the stage, which the service staff follow up on with sensitive service and efficiency. Then the food arrives, wow! The high quality of the fresh Vermont ingredients shines through the impressive preparation, which is done with a delicate touch and thoughtful blending of flavors and textures. This last visit I enjoyed Trout with Hazelnuts on pureed Sweet Potato and wilted Spinach highlighted by a clarified butter sauce with just a hint of garlic. Wonderful! If you are in the Middlebury/Burlington area it is worth the trip!

“forgot the basics”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This is a lovely resturant with excellent food, delightful staff but I knew it was too good to be true in this part of Vermont. Please, clean your stinky, filthy, bathrooms! No excuse. Makes me wonder about the food. YUK!

“Worth the Drive”
Reviewed December 21, 2012 via mobile

We live about 20 miles away and make the trip to Tourterelle a few times each year. Elegant country dining in a nice setting. The bouiliabasse is a personal favorite, as are the crepes. The wine list is only ok - a bit limited. One word of caution ... There is a function room out back, where they sometimes host weddings and the like. It can be a bit noisy and busy if there's a function going on. If you're going to Tourterelle on a Saturday, you might ask about functions.

“relaxing meal at a special place”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

from the moment you enter this beautiful old building perched on the hill overlooking the Green Mountains of VT, we knew there was something special here. We were welcomed by the charming co-owner, Christine, then seated in a comfortable room with a warm fire in it's fireplace setting the mood for a relaxing and enjoyable evening ahead. The fabulous food is often local and cooked to order served by wonderful staff(some who have work there for 8yrs!). Not a place to be in a rush, but definitely worth every minute that you are there!

“Consistently Great French Food”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

This is our favorite "neighborhood" restaurant we frequent at least every 2-3 weeks year round. I have never had a bad meal here. Christine, the owner, is beyond gracious, a fantastic host and the country French food is excellent. They always have specials which keeps the menu interesting (always great fish, I just had roast pheasant which was excellent) and even the basic bistro items like hanger steak or a local burger are excellent (and not that expensive). The wine selection is also very good with interesting cocktails that rotate each season and a stocked bar (you can eat the bar too which is a fun option). All the serving staff are dedicated and knowledgable and will always accomodate any requests or food allergies. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic but you can definitely bring kids (the fries are great and they will make chicken tenders or pasta).
