For the experienced traveller, Bed & Breakfasts can be a magical alternative to hotels along the way. Emily's is one of those magical places, Down a less travelled country road, sitting in a field surrounded by wild turkey forest, Clifford House was welcoming from the moment we arrived. Ours was an impromptu stay ,arranged about an hour before we arrived, on a "changing of the colours" fall weekend . Bread was rising in the kitchen - we were invited in - with no idea where to get dinner in the area, Emily offered we could make up pizza with her homemade dough. So we did and gathered around the dining room table with other guests to enjoy the pizza and their company later that evening. Thanks to that incredibly warm and generous hospitality we decided to stay an extra day.
After a great sleep in a comfortable bed in the silence of the Vermont countryside, we were awakened to the smell of baking bread, coffee, bacon and eggs and sourdough cinnamon buns - couldn't ask for much better than that.
Bed & Breakfasts are not always suitable for those wanting to get away from everyone - Clifford Country is for those that miss the charm of visiting a relative in the country -they will get everything they were hoping for. We are just trying to figure out hoew to get back there again!
