Upon checkin we were greeted by the owners who were very polite and couteious. YThe rooms were decorated in a very detailed coordinated manner. We also found the breakfast to be superb.

We spent 2 nights at this Inn and were very disappointed by the lack of attention to detail, especially considering the outlandish price. This seems to be one of those places that puts out for "ye olde" common areas and skimps on the guest rooms. Ours was small, drab and poorly lit with depressing furnishings and a not terribly comfortable bed. The ancient wall outlet next to the desk didn't work properly, with the result that my computer battery was drained overnight (and I shouldn't have bothered with it anyway since the internet connection was hit-or-miss). The bathroom was lit by 2 bulbs, one of which was burned out and not replaced throughout our stay, and the shower was weak. The lack of early morning coffee was also disappointing as was the breakfast, a quite limited selection of cold items (except for toast on request). Yet another irritant was that our room key took lots of jiggling and fussing to open the room door and the outer door to the property. All little things really, but they added up to a lack of care and concern for guests. We will not be back.

We had a terrible experience at this Inn. Upon arrival, we found dead bugs in clear view under a chair and gravel and crumbs on the rug. The hall and stairs were also dirty and in need of attention. They did vacuum our room at our request, but their efforts didn't result in an even marginally clean carpet. We had no Internet access and worked with the desk help for 40 minutes to no avail. When we addressed our concerns with the owner the next day (he was not on the premises the previous day), he insisted that no other guests had complained of same, suggesting that our claims were fabricated. As for the dirty room, his self righteous comment was that it was vacuumed after our complaints, His attitude, throughout, was confrontational, cocky and rude. When we asked for some adjustment to be made to our bill, he replied, "If you couldn't afford it, you shouldn't have stayed." We can afford it, but we won't ever be staying again.

In our weary travels home late at night we could not find any accomodations when we fell upon the Inn at Montpelier. We are glad we stayed overnight. The Inn is clean and the breakfast was delicious as well as having a comfortable atmosphere. I would recommend the Inn at Montpelier anytime.

I stayed at the Inn on two separate trips to Montpelier in January 2011. The owners are as delightful as they are accommodating. The rooms at this property are divided between the main inn and the adjacent builiding. I stayed in a room in each. The main inn has better amenities, so you should try to book a room there if you can.

The inn is nice - we stayed in room 22 (though it lacked one of the easy chairs shown in the picture). The pre-cut firewood is stored in a cabinet next to the fireplace. Owner John was helpful in recommending activities and dining, and he made reservations. Breakfast is simple but nice (maple yogurt was a tasty treat). If you're a toss-and-turn sleeper, it's worth noting that a historic inn's beds are going to be a bit creaky. WiFi was a little weak in the carriage house, even though there is a separate router there.

The place is just steps from nice restaurants and shops of downtown, and jogging is easy to do on the residential streets. Montpelier has several good restaurants, including the Culinary Institutes teaching restaurant. And the Three Penny Taproom has an excellent selection of beers on draught. Furthermore, Montpelier is an easy (and pretty) drive from plenty of Vermont activities in Stowe, Waterbury and Burlington.

A lovely and comfortable place to stay in the heart of Monteplier. Very convenient location, within walking distance of everything Montpelier has to offer. Lovely classic style Inn, with all the amenities. The room my wife and I stayed in was quite large and comfortable.

Very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff and management. They went out of their way to help in a an emergency (had a car issue on the day of departure and they were extraordinarily helpful).

Was very pleased with our stay there and would highly recommend the place to anyone. Beats the impersonal large hotel chains by a mile.
