Econo Lodge Montpelier
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Montpelier
Reviewed May 4, 2014

I drove into Montpellier and say a sign for the Econo Lodge so went there. Its just outside the town, and up quite a rural road. Very helpful lady on reception who also reccomended a local resturant for me to eat at.

Huge bedroom and bathroom, nice and clean, quiet hotel.

I cant coment on the breakfast as I forgot what time it was and walked in at 9:05 on the off chance and had some toast that was still left !!

If i am ever in the area again I would come here.

The staff is delightful here. The breakfast is complimentary and pretty good considering it's free. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting to stay in Montpelier because its location is a 5 minute walk from downtown. Wonderful stay!!

We booked a 2 Queen non-smoking room. The hotel is located on a hill, which might be a challenge during the long Vermont winters. It is an old hotel, although the rooms have clearly been updated. There is no elevator and our upstairs room required a trip up a large staircase in the lobby area. The room was very large and nicely decorated. It fit the ambience of the area. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. The WiFi was good and the staff was very courteous. The breakfast area was a disappointment...it was in a small room in the back of the lobby with 2 tables and was sort of dungeon-like. But, the breakfast selection was fairly good and well stocked. The hotel is convenient to downtown Montpelier. We would stay here again, if we are in the area.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so stay on the first floor, as the staircase to the upstairs is difficult to n...

Thank you Rob for your kind words on our establishment. Yes it's an old hotel , but we have been putting loving care into upgrading the rooms and making your stay is a pleasant One.
I'm Sorry about not having an elevator, but saving about 70.00$ for taking 14 steps to me is well worth. Our staff is also willing to lend a hand with your bags if needed.

Older hotel but very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was large and the beds comfortable. My only complaint was that the breakfast was minimal and the same every day. Sunday morning was scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage links, various breads/english muffins/bagels, cake donuts/danish, frosted flakes, raisin bran, apple juice and orange juice. Monday and Tuesday were identical except there was no sausage. Boring if staying more than one night. It would be easy to put hash browns out or pre-make pancakes or waffles. The quality of the food was very good, it was the variety that was lacking. Overall, a very nice stay and the staff were all very wonderful. For under $70 a night, I can't complain.

Kind of a feeling of faded glory, which I like. No real complaints, and the place was clean and pretty well maintained. Breakfast a bit meager, hallways quite cold, but the room was bigger than usual, and the bathroom much bigger (unfortunately, the sink, toilet and shower were all crammed at one end, so most of it was wasted space).

I would absolutely stay here again. But I would only recommend it to someone I knew wouldn't mind a little roughness around the edges.

I heard rumors of a restaurant, but no sign of one.

The room had been updated and would've been nice if it weren't for the horrible smell of mildew. They clearly had some problem with leaks in the ceiling. The entire room had a wet musty mildew smell. It was unfortunate. The breakfast was good and the service was as well. Too bad. I hope they can get it fixed.

Room Tip: The queen rooms look to be updated.

We stayed here on our way through Vermont as we really like Montpelier, the hotel is just up a hill opposite down town, so very convenient. The front desk staff were nice, friendly and helpful. Our room was fine, good bed and pillows and spotless bathroom.
