We decided to take a trip to Vermont and stay at the Maple Inn in Montpelier rather than at a B&B as the cost was comparable. We opted for a suite rather than a room and we received a generous discount. We had stayed at this establishment some years back and were quite satisfied then. However, this recent trip in May 2013 really surprised us to our delight. The rooms had all been renovated and the furniture was all new and very modern as if done by a designer. The suite was beautiful and the place was extremely fresh and clean. When we went to bed in the evening the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We hadn't had a bed so comfortable since we stayed at the Fairmont hotel in Chicago. The staff was friendly and you were really made to feel like family. First we were told there was a free breakfast every morning. Very generous breakfast of waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, muffins, bagels, yogurt, you name it. Unlimited coffee tea and juice. Then we were told there was free soda and bottled water 24/7 in the lobby with the most delicious home-made chocolate chip cookies. In the room there was a keurig coffee maker with free coffee and tea and a refrigerator. The suite has a separate kitchen to eat in, family room with tv and a separate bedroom also with an hd tv. Free shampoo, conditioner, lotion and make-up remover towelettes. Bathroom was very clean and new, very nicely done. There was also a free newspaper daily and free internet access. There was wifi in the room as well as two computers and printers for use in the lobby. Also a bowl of hard candy in the lobby, yes for free. On the lower level there was a work-out room with great machines with an HD TV as you worked out and a water cooler. Also a couple washer/dryers on that floor for nominal charge. You couldn't ask for more. The hotel is easily located 5 minutes off the interstate yet far enough away you don't hear traffic and a short 5-10 minute drive to Montepelier or Barre Vermont towns. Next door is an Applebees that delivers to the hotel, and a nice grocery store across the street. There is also a convenience store on the premises and a gas station. We were so impressed that we decided we will stay there whenever we visit Vermont. It was an exceptional experience. With the friendly staff and the generous accommodations it was the best.

Room Tip: When we first arrived we stayed on the main floor at the south end. We were woke up by people talki...

What a pleasant hotel experience! This was our first stay at a Comfort Inn and we were impressed, including our child, who upon entering our room declared it "one of the best hotels ever." The service was very friendly, the hotel clean and well maintained, and the free extras were a welcome touch. We were greeted with chocolate chip cookies in the lobby, where the hotel also keeps free sodas and coffee. The room includes a microwave, fridge, free bottled water and a Keurig coffee maker with K cups (which we didn't use because we took advantage of the free breakfast). Nice HDTV and free, reliable Internet.

The beds and abundant pillows were comfortable. The room was roomy enough, with a small desk and chair. It's not one of those rooms with a separate lounging area with couch and big desk, so don't expect that from a standard room. We weren't, so no problem. Bathroom was appropriately stocked, including a hair dryer.

The hotel includes a fitness room, which my husband used, and has computers to use for free in the lobby if need be.

The breakfast was good, not fancy -- eggs, bacon, sausage, instant oatmeal, cold cereals, juices, coffee, yogurt, fruit, bread, french toast and two waffle griddles. While it's serve yourself, a very friendly lady overseeing the breakfast room offered help and worked hard to keep the area running smoothly, along with a coworker who kept the room well-supplied.

The hotel is no more than a 10-minute drive -- one exit on I-89 -- to downtown Montpelier. There's a gas station and Applebee's on the same property, and a Shaw's grocery story across the street. If you want to be walking distance to downtown Montpelier, this isn't the spot, but it's very close and a comfy, clean place to stay.

I will add Comfort Inn and Suites to Hampton Inn as a good value in hotels. Beds and rooms aren't much different, and in some cases better, than higher end (more expensive) hotels, and these budget-friendly places include free Internet, beverages and breakfast -- unlike their supposedly upscale counterparts.

If this hotel wasn't built recently, the staff here have managed to keep the place looking like its doors opened yesterday. The bathrooms are the cleanest I have ever seen at any hotel chain out there. There is no sign of wear and tear on any of the furniture, walls, carpeting etc. The beds are perfectly squishy, yet still firm. Plenty of pillows and blankets on the bed. Microwave and fridge in the room and keurig coffee maker stocked with K cups and bottled water. Free soda, coffee, milk and cookies in the lobby and hot breakfast in the morning... With hot waffles and real Vermont maple syrup, of course.

Quiet area. Staff is very friendly and location is right off the highway. Grocery store across the street and a mall less than a mile away with walmart. I highly recommend checking out Prohibition Pig for dinner... A little bit of a drive, but extremely good bbq. Oh, and of course Ben and Jerry's, Cabot cheese, and king Arthur flour are all in the area.

Nice looking on the outside but about 3 miles from Montpelier. The front desk staff was excellent and made us feel welcome. The room was very small. There were two double beds, no easy chair, no sofa and no room. The price was too high for the room. Everything sort of worked. The HVAC was finicky. The room was 62F when we checked in and we couldn't get the cooling off. A person came from the front desk came and fiddled with it and it started working. The internet connection connected to the house system but it would not accept the password. I didn't bother with it. This is another place that thinks four or five uncomforatable pillows is cool. They bragged about their breakfast and I did look in and it seemed pretty complete but typical. I didn' try it.

Room Tip: Probably pretty good for a single traveler

Donald, thank you for taking the time to write a comment about our hotel! We appreciate your recognition of the hard work our front desk staff does and we’re glad you like our new renovations to the hotel. I am very excited to tell you that we are continuing to upgrade our rooms. This includes new carpet, new wallpaper and new heating/AC units! I would invite you to consider our suites the next time you visit as they are more spacious and include a couch, chair and kitchen area as well as a bedroom separate from the living area. We are also continually working on improving the efficiency and reliability of our wireless internet. I’m sorry that it malfunctioned and I will certainly look into the problem. Also, our brand new bedding is arriving this week (including new pillows) and we can’t wait to get it in the rooms! We’re sorry you didn’t join us for breakfast because we do pride ourselves on our great selection including real Vermont maple syrup for our freshly made waffles as well as our excellent and friendly breakfast staff. We hope that you will stay with us again in the future and experience all our hotel can offer!

Overall, this was a very good value for the money. We went in February with our 4 children and got an a-joining rooms. The hotel was very well kept and clean. The hot breakfast was a great and convenient bonus (feeding 4 kids before a day of skiing can be an ordeal). The only real drawback was that there isn't a pool which would have been really nice as our kids are always entertained in water!

I stayed at this hotel for 2 night while my son was playing hockey. The check in and check out was quick and the staff was friendly. Although the room was $125 a night, a daily breakfast was offered as well as cookies, bottled water and soda. The rooms were typical-nothing special, but they were quiet and had a fridge and microwave. There is a gas station as well as an Applebees right in the same parking lot which was great. Applebees even delivers! Across the street there is a Shaw's grocery store, too.

We chose this hotel because of the good rating on TripAdvisor and am glad we did. The room and bathroom were very clean. The hotel is just off the highway, but it was quiet. The hvac system was also quiet. There is a large screen TV with full cable access. There was a microwave and refrigerator in the room and a coffee maker (although there was coffee, milk, and chocolate chip cookies available in the evening and a full breakfast in the morning). The morning breakfast is what you would expect, however the eggs were freshly scrambled and not the round patties you get at many other places. (There was also fresh, crisp bacon.) The staff were all very friendly and helpful. There was also free bottled water in the room (when you brushed your teeth you could tell that the tap water wasn't especially tasty). The entire establishment is smoke free. We enjoyed a good night's sleep there.
