We stayed at the Comfort Inn this past weekend October 13-14. I called ahead to see if we could check in early on our way to a wedding an hour towards Burlington. They were quite gracious. When we arrived, the smell of wonderful cookies was everywhere, but we needed to change and get back on the road. Wonderful reception staff called our room shortly after we entered to make sure the room was OK. When we returned around 11PM, there were two cookies left (one for me and my husband) and all sorts of drinks including a lovely sleepy time tea. The next morning, we discovered that the walls must be pretty thin because we could hear people all around us, but that was quickly forgotten when we ate a fantastic breakfast that was hardly continental! There were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fresh waffles with maple syrup (VERMONT, of course!) and more. I was so impressed. We had a wonderful time and I would definitely stay there again.

We only spent one night here during our travels but it was the best service at a chain style hotel that we received. The 'fall' decorated foyer set the scene upon entering. Great welcome & information provided at check in, milk and warm cookies were a very nice touch! Room was large, very clean and with lots of amenities such as coffee making and bottled water supplied. The only real downside was the noisy heating/air conditioning unit - very old style that need replacing or quietening down as it disturbed sleep! There was even a staff member available to assist people at the self service breakfast. Laundry facilities cheap and useful when you've been on the road for a couple of weeks with cheap products available at the front desk. Nearby Applebys was convenient and served good food without needing to drive! Great service on checking out where we were offered cold bottles of water for the road, a nice touch. But it is really the staff that made this experience so pleasant, they were all cheerful, friendly & happy to help- there is obviously a real strong customer service ethic in practice here and it was great to see!

Dear Blondehairrocks,

Thank you for recently staying with us. We appreciate your business and your wonderful feedback. Our staff are all "stars" and work really hard to make you feel like you are at home. We recently spent several days in the New England area and were extremely pleased with our three nights at this hotel. Our rooms were huge and attactively decorated. The staff at the front desk was very friendly, there were fresh cookies and drinks available in the lobby and free bottles of water in the rooms. The sofa and chairs were especially comfortable. Noticeable extra touches included regular (glass) plates and bowls in addition to drinking glasses, a night light in the bathroom, plenty of pillows on the bed, and an Applebee's right in front of the hotel that was happy to deliver. The breakfast was hot, plentiful, tasty, and included real Vermont maple syrup. With the high cost of this product, we found this to be an especially nice touch. The lack of an elevator was a bit of a hardship for older members of our party, but we were aware of this from previous TripAdvisor posts. The only problem we had (cold air from the heating unit) was corrected as soon as we brought it to the attention of the staff. (We stopped by the desk after breakfast to report the problem and by the time we walked to our room the gentleman was there to inspect and repair the unit!) The entryway was even seasonally decorated to delight the eye as you entered and departed. Hats off to the staff at this hotel!

The good: lovely warm welcome from staff. Nice free cookies in lobby. Free bottled water in the room. Lovely modern looking hotel on the outside. Nice sized parking lot. You can order in from Applebee's next door, though food was awful! Free breakfast and free drinks in lobby. Free wi fi.
The bad: very uncomfortable beds. No elevator so you have to lug your cases up the stairs. Even though the room seemed clean it did not feel it. This may be because the room was very out dated and dark with dark covers and dark wood furniture, some of it scratched. Bathroom old and out of date. Breakfast on paper plates. Coffee machine was weirdly stationed in the bathroom.
The ugly: Opened the window for air overnight rather than using the very noisy air con. Was awoken early to the smell of someone standing outside our window smoking. Was not in Montpelier as advertised.
Would I recommend? No.

Dear Wisdom_Owl,

Thank you for taking the time to post your honest opinion of our hotel. You're right - we don't have an elevator but are always willing to help with your luggage. The main level of the hotel is actually the 2nd floor. If a guest can not do stairs - we do our best to get them on the 2nd floor if we know ahead of time.

I would also like to remind folks that we are physically located in Berlin and not Montpelier. (Vermont has several small towns without Post Offices, and we are one of them.) We are a quick five minute drive from downtown Montpelier as the interstate access is very close by.

After check in we try to call to ensure everything is good with your room. We realize this may have not been enough time for an honest evaluation - so we like to ask if there is anything we could have done better at check out as well. We can't improve on what we are unaware of.

If you have another spare moment, please drop me an email at maplewoodmontpelier@gmail.com to let me know what room you folks were in. I welcome the opportunity to find out if you were in one of the newly renovated rooms or in the older section that we have not had a chance to get to yet. We are going room by room and updating as time permits.

Thank you again for providing your honest feedback and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sue

Just finished an 11 day tour of New England with a motorcoach. 10 different motels and this was was by far the best and most friendly. We were greeted before we even unboarded and given a warm welcome. The rooms were large and extremely clean with toiletries , coffee and bottle water, plus two free sample bottles of vermont maple syrup!!. We were also given coupons for free ice creams at the nearby gas station. Breakfast was not your ordinary continental. It was a full breakfast with a very attentive lady that kept things stocked, fresh and clean. I appreciate the professional treatment that our group received and also the great rooms. I would highly recommend this motel.
