“Delightful stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012

The choice of hotels in the Montpelier area is slim, and we chose this Comfort Inn based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were very pleased with our decision. The hotel is conveniently located, with a large lobby and very friendly staff. The room was spotless, with a nice flat-screen TV and comfy beds. There were complimentary cookies, coffee and sodas available in the lobby throughout the day, and an excellent breakfast buffet with hot foods. Yes, the rates are high compared to similar hotels in other areas, but we would happily stay here again, and recommend it to other travelers.

a little out of the price range for what it is. It's an ordinary, clean and safe Comfort Inn, but I think 129 bucks a night is a little too much. This is the best hotel in the area though, so if I was in the area, I guess I would stay again.

In the past, my family opted to stay in White River Junction, mainly due to the lack to hotels with consistent good reviews in Barre/Montpelier and wanting to avoid the high prices in Burlington/Stowe. Having noticed that the Comfort Inn @ Maplewood was now #1 in the area, we decided to give it a shot. We’re really glad we did.

The front desk staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and accommodating of our small family reunion. Having stayed at a very wide variety of hotels over the years, I tend to assume mid-level price means you get mid-level service and comfort. Not here. I think the gentleman at the front desk (Sam?) when we checked in set the great tone for the weekend. Great front desk staff there…

The hotel is very easy to get to off the highway. But, its far enough that you won’t hear any highway noise. There is an Applebees and deli/gas station next door to the hotel and a Shaw’s grocery store across the street. (Note to people traveling with young kids: there is an elementary school ¼ mile away with a big field and playground and a McDonalds with an indoor playland 5-10mins away.) It really is a great location. Even if you’re spending most of the time in Stowe or Burlington – rooms cost more there. This is a great option if you don’t mind driving a few extra miles.

We had a suite with a kitchenette which included: microwave, small fridge, sink, silverware and dish soap (nice touch). I assume the suite was recently updated. The carpet, furniture, fixtures all looked new ( I think the window treatments are still waiting for an upgrade). The room was VERY clean and stocked with everything you’d expect. PLUS, complimentary bottled water. The bedding was new and mattress was comfy. The living room area and the bedroom both had big HD flatscreen TVs. Another hotel perk: they serve warm chocolate chip cookies around 3pm in the lobby, along with a big pitcher of milk. The lobby also has coffee and a small fridge with soda that guests are welcome to. The free breakfast is from 6am-10am and is much better than your average free hotel breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, bagels, toast, Danish, yogurt, juice, coffee and a Belgian waffle station with real maple syrup.

The only “critiques” for the sake of a balanced review: a few in our group seemed to have problems with the magnetic strips on the room cards. We’d have to swipe it a dozen times, various speeds, etc and eventually it’d work. We ended up getting replacement cards and had the same problem. Also, housekeeping did a great job having an immaculate room ready for our arrival. But, the room didn’t quite get the same level of attention on the second day (garbage bin not emptied, towels not re-stocked with any washcloths or hand towels, toiletries not restocked). But these were very minor inconveniences and I have no doubt the front desk would have resolved things if we pressed the issues.

We will definitely be staying there anytime we’re back in the area…and we look forward to it.

Wow! Thank you for taking the time for writing such a wonderful & complete review. We love to hear what our Guests think about their recent experience with us as we learn from each and every comment. We forget about some things that folks may enjoy and your mention of the local playground was an ah-ha moment. The school is pretty close by and kids would love it! Thanks for the reminder!

You were also right about the window treatments in your room - the Suites have all been recently upgraded and we are just waiting for new window treatments in some of those rooms. Our goal is to hire locally and are on a waiting list for this to take place in the next few months.

Thank you for taking a chance with us and hopefully we will see you again soon! Have a wonderful summer! ~ Sue Martin, GM

The room was pretty small (we had trouble finding a space for the Pack 'N Play), but very clean. Staff was friendly and common areas were clean as well. By far, it appears to be the best hotel in the area. Only thing is that the rooms need some updating, especially the bedding.

We chose this hotel to visit Norwich University with our 2 high schoolers for a 2 night stay. The location was convenient from the interstate, and also a short drive to the area ski resorts. Since there were not alot of hotels in the area to choose from, we did not expect much. We chose a suite for the space and it was well worth it! The king size bed was very comfortable, and they even provided a rollaway bed in addition to the pullout sofa since we have a boy and a girl. The kitchen came in handy to store and reheat leftovers from dining out, and the breakfast was delicious and ample and free! We loved having all the free bottled water, as well as free sodas and the warm chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon! Another great thing was it was very clean. In fact, it was one of the cleanest hotels we stayed at. Staff was friendly and made suggestions of where to dine and sightsee in the area. We would definitely stay here again if we ever find ourselves visiting the area.

Room Tip: Choose a suite if you are traveling with more than 2. Well worth having all the extra space.

I stayed here in February while visiting family. After I was in the room for about an hour, I realized how clean everything was. The bathroom was also spotless, and the towels folded just so. The staff was friendly. A great breakfast buffet, and coffee and drinks are always available in the lobby. I had a frig in the room along with additional bottles of complementary water.
I will be staying there again.

Stayed in a suite one night. Rooms were clean and pretty big. Loved having the Green Mountain coffee K-Cups in the morning.
