“River house”
Reviewed August 28, 2012 via mobile

Just got back from 3 nights in the river house. What a cozy suite with a deck overlooking the river! This my third time staying at Phineas and have never been disappointed. Warm friendly innkeepers and staff that take care of your every need. Best place to bring my dog for nearby hiking and swimming. Thanks Jay and John!

We spent two nights here recently and had a wonderful visit. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and bent over backwards to accommodate us. We stayed in the Bulldog Room, which was great. We really liked having a little living room to relax and lounge in. And while some hotels/B&B's/lodges allow dogs, the Phineas Swann is truly dog friendly -- you and your dog are made to feel welcome and at home. For those that like to hike with your dogs as we do, the Long Trail (you can hike to the top of Jay Peak) and the Catamount Trail are nearby. This was our second stay here and I am sure we will be back again!

I read several of the unanimously glowing reviews before booking our stay at Phineas Swann, and even though it was sllightly out of the way, it was definitely worth the minor detour. This place is amazing! J. greeted us warmly after a long car trip and took us on a tour of the grounds. There were all sorts of interesting things to look at, all neatly arranged. We stayed in the Terrier Suite, which was beautifully appointed, and had every amenity and treat imaginable. We had to leave very early in the morning (before the regular breakfast time), but when we mentioned it to J., he made calls to have someone come in early to make us an incredible breakfast. This is the kind of place that you like so much that you want to tell everyone about it--but so absolutely wonderful that you are tempted to keep it a secret!

I participated in a Bike Vermont tour, and got to spend two nights of our five at this Inn. The ambience is fantastic, as all kinds of intersting vintage and antique parapenalia, emphasizing dog figurines, lay about the attractive lodge. The place was quite clean, the hosts unbelievably friendly, and the place felt like home over the days that we were there. The food was quite good, all prepared with a homey touch so that all felt taken care of beautifully. The beds, mostly four poster, were unbelievably comfortable, with high quality linens guaranteeing a good night's sleep. A hot tub available to us soothed us after a hard day's riding. All in all, a great Inn, well worth the stay.

We love taking our dog with us on our excursions and finding a nice pet friendly place can be a challenge at times. This is a wonderful Bed & Breakfast that is very accomodating to dogs and owners alike. Located right on Main Street it was very easy to find and within easy walking distance of the local restaurants and shops. They have a very thorough reference binder about the area, amnities and history. They also have a great selection of recreation books and DVD library to wind down with. I think my favorite moment was relaxing on a back porch rocking chair, nibbling on the variety of snacks provided by the Inn and reading a new book I'd brought along. Their summer landscaping is beautiful and definately worth taking in. From our warm welcome at check in to our delicious breakfast before heading on the road we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

We have good friends in town and we cannot wait to visit them so that we can stay at the Phineas Swann! This is the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at and it never disappoints. We stayed in the Green Mountain Suite this time and everything was wonderful - from the baked goods greeting us on our arrival, to the stocked goodies like snacks and soda, the EXTREMELY comfortable bed and the lovely outdoor balcony, it made us never want to leave. The breakfasts are amazing and the grounds are beautiful. It is a great place to relax and do nothing!!! We can't wait to rebook the suite for next year and if you ever want a place where you can be busy just relaxing, then this is it!!!!

Room Tip: We enjoy the rooms/suites in the Carriage House - it's a little bit more private and larger.

I found this place by accident, and this is one of those times where an accident ended perfectly. Being met at the door and taken for a quick tour, was just one of the perfect touches that you experience here. The decor is amazing, how every piece fits together, and trust me taking it all in could take days to notice the little touches. The Blue Room was perfect. The bed, the pillows, made sleeping a new experience. After a day of exploring the town and Jay, we relaxed into the hot tub, moved down to the little river, and after supper, sat by the fire beside the river. Besides the hosts being so attentative, we met a few guests that make the experiece even more enjoyable. 100% recommend Phineas Swann and we are looking forward to going back later this fall.
