“Nice but expensive”
Reviewed September 10, 2010

This is a very clean and modern place with very helpful staff. The price seemed high, though it was cheaper than many other places in Middlebury. It's a bit over a mile to the downtown heart of Middlebury, so you really can't walk there. I didn't see much in the area around the hotel to walk to. There was no refrigerator in our room; there was complimentary coffee in the lobby. A complimentary breakfast would be nice.

We decided to splurge and stayed at Marriot for one night.

We loved the hotel . It was clean and cheerful. The rooms were super clean and the staff very very nice.

We were a bit taken aback by the extra charge for breakfast though. After spending a considerable amount of money for a room, we certainly expected breakfast would be included. Other than that, we were very happy there. Would have liked to stay longer.

We stayed here one night. I booked the night before and they only had a king so I requested a cot, extra towels and early check in. We checked in early, the room had a sleeper sofa but they had the extra bed in the room as well as extra towels we requested. The room was lovely. Clean, quite and very comfortabe.

There is a breakfast for a fee in the lobby restaurant which was good ($9.95 pp) but they had free coffee and tea in the lobby 24/7 plus 2 computers and free printing.

We did not use the pool or fitness room.

The area is nice and the town is nearby with shops and lots of places to eat.

We stayed in this Courtyard for 3 nights, while in Middlebury for a family reunion. Our average room rate was $183 per night, which did NOT include b'fast. The positives: front desk was helpful and apologetic when things weren't right; our room was amply sized; the elevator worked; and the lobby was off to the side and comfortable, with 2 computers to use. The beds were comfy with nice pillow choices. The negatives: our room was only stocked with coffee on our arrival - skipped the next 2 days; no microwave or refrig; often the caffeineated coffee service thermos in the lobby was empty with the trash can overflowing; a handwritten sign on a side parking lot door informed us that the door was broken - use the front door; the bagels at the b'fast bar were stale; and toiletries/Kleenex were sometimes replaced, sometimes not. The vending machine on our floor was out of diet sodas. Due to this Courtyard's inattention to small details, I would rate this stay a notch below a Hampton Inn, which seems to have better quality control and consistency.

We stayed one night while picking up our son from summer school. Everything was quite nice and pleasant. Shortage of in-room info on the area. I agree with one commenter that the breakfast "buffet," at $10 ($9 for continental) was too pricey. My suggestion: Take away the eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes, and leave the oatmeal, waffler, and scones, then include in the room rate. Done. Despite these criticisms, I would stay again. (p.s., There's also a Rite Aid on site and a supermarket across the street.) Pool & fitness center open 24/7.

We went to Middlebury for a wedding and stayed in this hotel. The front desk staff was always helpful and attentive. Even though it's a pretty standard hotel, it was very clean and neat.

Although this town is very small, this hotel is five minutes away from downtown, and that short ride allowed us to look around and explore a bit more.

We did think it was a little overpriced for its location and the size of the town, but the wedding couple had suggested we stayed there.

I occasionally travel to Middlebury on business and have stayed here several times. The rooms are pretty standard and always clean.

The room rates are a little out of control for a location in the middle of nowhere and probably wouldn't stay here if I weren't in the rewards program and getting some type of return. This is really the only game in town (unless you like motels or antiquated inns) and the management obviously takes that into consideration when setting their gouging rates.

The breakfast is also over priced for the product. You will spend about $200 a night on a room and they still want to charge you $10 for breakfast. Keep in mind there is no public transportation or cabs, and too far to walk to town from the location so you must drive everywhere.

The main redeeming feature at the middlebury courtyard is the service staff. They are really top notch and helpful. Especially the young bearded gentleman who seems to be there most of the time. Very much on his game.
