Entire building very cold during the day and way too hot in the middle of the night. It does not feel as if anyone in charge is invested in the experience of guests that an owner would be.

We are sorry to hear that your experience was not a good one, and we apologize for that. Ownership has invested very substantial capital and time in renovating the Inn over the last several years. All rooms have electric combination heating and cooling units. Some units have radiator heat as well, which is generated from boilers utilizing oil fuel. Common areas have a combination of radiator heat and electric units. Ownership is deeply invested in the Inn and committed daily to providing guests the best possible experience. As an historic property and a Green Hotel, there have been times when balancing temperatures, especially in the common areas can be a bit tricky. In rooms, guests always have the option of adjusting hot and cold from their electric units. We will strive to better monitor and improve the situation and we thank the guest for advising us of their experience. Thank You. Jeff Costello General Manager

All good as we were hoping, great room/suite in the main building, two rooms, one a bedroom, the other tv/desk/couch, plus a nice bath. No complaints at all, staff all nice and welcoming, will stay there again when we need to.

Kudos to GM Jeff Costello, Patricia Mosier and their colleagues at the Inn. Ms. Mosier treated us like friends from the moment we met. Scones and brownies over hot tea and coffee mid-day. Excellent breakfasts and always friendly people throughout the Inn. When's the last time you knew the names and backgrounds of the staff at a property unless something went wrong? Here you receive friendliness and courtesy and care from EVERYONE. It felt truly as if we were in either a friend's home, a private club in the UK, or a manor house. We have been in many other fine properties in the area; the Middlebury Inn has it all. Wi-fi in an 1827 property where you get to know everyone if you wish. BRAVO!

With a senior at Middlebury College, I have been visiting the Middlebury Inn for four years, staying for varying lengths of time on approximately 25 occassions. I have been uniformly pleased with my experiences at the Inn, and have come to look forward not only to visiting my son, but also to staying at the Middlebury Inn. The staff is warm and welcoming (they even recognize my voice on the telephone at this point and always greet me by name when I arrive and during my stay); the rooms are large, comfortable, clean and in marvelous condition (especially for an historic property); the food in the quaint restaurant is wonderful and varied; and the overall experience is exactly what one would want out of a Vermont inn. I highly recommend visiting the Middlebury Inn to take in the local historical venues, to experience (in modern comfort) the "feel" of a nineteenth century establishment in different seasons (my favorite is around Christmas with the beautiful decorations and fire in the fireplace as you sip afternoon tea in the lobby), and to bask in the comfort of your hosts and the surroundings.

Booked a room in the Inn I was looking forward to our stay, but was put in the annex, due to my 6 pound service dog, I have emphysema. We had called twice before arriving, yet no one could be bothered to walk over and turn on the heat in our room. We had to sit in coats for an hour, the bedding is stained and smelly, I sat up on the couch all night bundled up from having to keep the window opened so I could breath from the smell The room has a horrible musty, moldy smell, which caused me to have a breathing attack, I had to get on my oxygen, or end up in a Hospital from respitory distress. For $169.00 a night this is totally unacceptable, I have stayed in cleaner Hotel 6's for $49.00. They should be ashamed and should let anyone with a health challenge know to look elsewhere. I really really regret coming here.

We sincerely apologize for the experience this guest encountered. Regarding the heat, we should have turned it on in the room prior to this guest's arrival and we will work on training to insure this happens with all of our guests. Regarding the other comments, we pride ourselves on keeping rooms that are clean, well-maintained and, of course, free of bad odors. We do limit pets to a handful of rooms and eliminating odors in those rooms sometimes entails extra treatment. That treatment must always occur but it sounds like it did not happen properly or adequately in this case.
The Middlebury Inn did recently undergo major renovation and refurbishment, which included new carpet and new bathroom flooring throughout the Inn, and upgrades in bedding and other improvements around the Inn.
We hope this guest will give us another chance and will contact me directly at 802.388.4961 to discuss this further. Jeff Costello, General Manager.

We went up to Middlebury to see our soon play football for the college and stayed for two nights. I love the feel of the Inn -- there is nothing cookie cutter about it. The lobby area was a warm friendly place to gather and both mornings they graciously accmmodated ten of us with small grandchildren in tow. The buffet breakfast waas perfect for making sure kids got what they wantd. The staff is pleasant and helpful. I also really like the shelves of books in the hallways avail for reading while you are there. I found an old Micky Spillane mystery to read. Rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms appear to be recently refurbished.

We arrived on a Monday and was warmly greeted by the desk staff. Our accommodations were ready for us. Check in was very easy. The Inn is very historic, dating back to 1827. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had the "Bed & Breakfast" package which is an excellent value. The breakfasts were plentiful and very tasty. All the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of both the Inn and the surrounding area..
