“Dinner overseasoned and undercooked, waitress very rude”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2009

They must have been having an off night. The waitress started our poor experience by cutting me off when I attempted to place an appetizer order, telling me she was only taking drink orders now. Given that we were 2 of 3 people in the dining room and we'd been seated for 5 minutes with no attention, I was ready to order an app! my husband looked over at me with his mouth hanging open. he whispered he'd never seen a waitress act that rude before!! Our food was also disappointing. My squash soup was almost too sweet to eat and was more apple puree with a hint of squash. My salad with local fruit and blue cheese had something (not mentioned) in the vinaigrette that made it too spicy to eat. My husband's pork dish was pink--not a color you want pork to be! in fact, the 3rd diner sent his dih back b/c it was too raw. we haven't been that unhappy with a meal in a long, long time. Prices would have been reasonable if food had been good, as it was, we fled as quickly as possible. Inn looked nice, very disappointed

This is the best restaurant and inn in Central Vermont. We came for peak fall foliage for three days. The "no worries" attitude of the staff was great, our room was huge and wonderful --- and after our first night eating the food by Chef Dennis Vieira, we CANCELLED our reservations for other restaurants the following nights and kept coming back to Dennis. AMAZING. This talented chef created the perfect blend of five star food with casual elegance. HINT: Make friends with the chef and see if he'll make you something that is "not on the menu..." HIGHLY RECOMMEND - plan to return.

We only had one night at the Red Clover but it was one of the highlights of our trip. The accommodation is gorgeous but the best thing was chef Dennis' cooking. We were treated to the most amazing series of dishes (including fish caught by another guest in Alaska) and everyone at the Inn was friendly and welcoming - there is a lovely warmth and openness in the interaction between staff and guests. So thanks Dennis for the delicious meal and thank you to everyone at the Red Clover for a great night in Vermont!

Welcoming from the get go, the staff does everything possible to make sure that your stay is perfect. The food is incredible. Chef Dennis Vierira is a true talent. We had two dinners and each one was simply delicious. This is a young man that knows how to cook "french". Even his breakfasts make the day start on a perfect note. Nice wine list as well. The rooms could use a bit of an upgrade in terms of paint and style. If you want to spend your stay with TV and the internet this is not your place. But there's no doubt about it, this is a quaint country inn complete with cozy bar, fireplace and barn cat. A very pretty area for foliage, hiking and photography. We've already made plans to return in the winter to enjoy the inn during another season.

We spent two nights here and how glad we were that we did. The inn and the location are wonderful, but the real highlight is the cooking of chef Dennis Vieira. He is talented and well-trained and his cuisine is superb - local products (vegetables, meats, and fish) and a nice wine list. We plan to return to sample his creations as often as we can make it up from Cape Cod.

We just returned from the Red Clover Inn after celebrating our wedding there. We had roughly 60 guests, so we completely booked the inn and farmhouse (overflow guests stayed at another nearby hotel). I can't say enough great things; we and all of our guests were very pleased with every aspect of the inn. The grounds are beautiful, and the inn accomodations and service was excellent. My guests couldn't stop raving about the food-thank you again to the chef Dennis! Steve, the innkeeper, went above and beyond in every way to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. We can't wait to go back for dinner or another weekend! As for weddings or other group celebrations, this inn can easily host small groups like ours all inside, or they have great (flat) lawn space for setting up a tent for a large group. This inn was truly a "find" for us-we loved everything about it. It isn't the traditional victorian-style inn we are all used to, which is why we chose it. It is a combination rustic-feel with it's exposed beams and hard wood plank floors, but with a modern neat and tidy feel. Hubbardton Forge lighting throughout completes the look. Our guests really enjoyed the campfires by the pond each evening-these were the icing on the cake! Don't miss this inn!

My husband and I just returned from an amazing anniversary getaway at the newly renovated and re-opened Red Clover Inn, and we can't recommend this place highly enough. We are loyal guests of this Inn's "sister" property (The Tyler Place in Highgate, VT), and found the owner's same scrupulous attention to comfort, warmth, and elegance here. The feeling is rustic yet graceful (there's little of the kitchy faux-Victorian tweeness often found in other Vemont inns), with wooden beams, fireplaces, and rooms awash in light. Our room (Emma's) was cozy but very comfortable, with skylights, a two-person soaking tub, and a warm French country ambiance. (One minor quibble: there were no shades on the ample windows and skylights.) There was no "check-in" when we arrived, just a very warm welcome from Hector and Andrea, who led us to our room and gave us a tour of the property. Andrea, the massage therapist, made our stay truly memorable. She gave my husband and I the best massages of our life, and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Hector was singularly gracious, from presiding over the small but well-appointed bar (you must try "Hector's Nector"!), to preparing a roaring bonfire for guests to enjoy after dinner, to thoughtfully bringing a New York Times for my husband (a crossword puzzle junkie.) The Tyler family has also found an absolute treasure in Reggie, the chef who concocts amazing appetizers and meals using locally sourced, often organic, ingredients. The food here is among the best I've had anywhere, at a far more reasonable cost, and with none of the pretension or attitude some destinations offer. Finally, the setting is idyllic: the Red Clover Inn is nestled in a gently rolling landscape of bright green lawns and lovely flowers, with ancient apple trees and a charming pond (complete with ducks). A snow-capped Mt. Pico looms just over the inn, and there's little better in life than soaking in the outdoor hot tub under the amazing stars in this setting. Can't wait to come back!
