We spent the weekend just to visit Manchester. I had reviewed several restaurants online and decided on this based on other reviews, the history of the building and most of all the dinner menu and wine list. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was great as was the staff. The meals were terrific. My wife got the scallops and I got one of the dinner specials which was a pasta dish called "Hunter's Pasta" with smoked venison, sun dried tomatoes and olive oil. It went great with an excellent bottle of Italian wine (Amarone della Valpolicella). If you enjoy good food and great wines, this is place you must check out.

What a grand, old, building.. with character and a mind of its own. You can't help but wonder how many faces have walked through its halls and if those walls could talk!. Genuine kind service, and comfort food that was delicious and filling.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on your experience at our historic inn and of course dining with us. I agree, the building is awesome, it is like a time capsule. It is great to read that you enjoyed your meal and staff. Since everyday is a learning experience, it would help if you could tell me how we could have earned the 5th star?. Once again thank you for everything and I look forward to your next visit. Michael

We had eaten a late lunch, so only wanted a few appetizers and a cocktail. When we arrived, we were greeted so nicely - no attitude about not wanting dinner. We sat at the bar and had stuffed artichokes and a half order of lobster mac and cheese. The food was really great and the wait staff fun. We can't wait to go back. We really enjoyed our night out.

It means so much to us when guests share their experience on Tripadvisor. I find this to be invaluable to our business. I remember talking to the 2 of you at the bar on Saturday evening, it was just a pleasure. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your appetizers and appreciate the kind words about the dining-room staff. I will definately let them know about your comments abd must agree the entire team is just great. I look forward to the seeing you the next time you visit Manchester. Cheers! Michael

Decided to eat here based on reviews, dinner was OK but mostly underwhelming. In fairness, we ordered from their early-bird menu which had mostly comfort food items on it, what we had was kind of bland. I guess it's OK value if you think $16 for a pot roast or chicken pot pie dinner with salad, sides, and apple crisp is a good price, we didn't leave hungry. Place does have great atmosphere in a restored 1790's era Federalist-style tavern. Booth seats were pretty uncomfortable despite having cushions.

We really value constructive comments that allow us to grow and improve. I am sorry you just found your dinner just "ok and bland". In the future, if you do not find something to your liking, let us know, we can make you a new entree or change your seating. Thank you very much for your honest feedback and dining at our historic tavern. Hopefully you will give us another chance to "Wow" you. Michael

After a long day of skiing I crave something substantial. Guided by our cell phones and a decent Zagat rating, we found ourselves at the Ye Old well before most dining rooms open. Worried both by our appearance after a day on the slopes and early arrival (4:30), we were prepared to be turned away. Instead, we were warmly welcomed and ushered to a great corner booth in a cozy bar that appears to not have changed since the 1800's. Soon after being seated we were encouraged to browse the early bird specials (among other items...venison for one) while we munched on warm cranberry fritters with maple butter. Seriously? We couldn't believe our luck. My friend and I both opted for early bird offerings, me with the pot roast and she with a turkey dinner. Both came with a salad, beautifully cooked vegetables, homemade bread and dessert. Each and every item better than the next. I appreciate that this truly was a good deal ($16+\-) and we were not punished by selecting it. Good portions and nice, easy, but well-timed service. It was the perfect meal to follow a day of skiing. I cannot wait to think of an excuse to go to Manchester just to return to this place.

There is nothing better than turning on the computer on a Monday morning and reading an enthusiastic review like yours. You are in Vermont, so wearing ski clothes is part of life and would never be a reason to turn you away. I am happy you got an opportunity to dine with us and take advantage of Our Early Bird Menu. It has a great selection of entrees at a great price and you will definately not go away hungry. Thank you so much for visiting! We are happy that you enjoyed yourself, and greatly appreciate the review. See you next time. Michael
