Enjoy a memorable fine dining experience while relaxing in our rustic cobblestone walled restaurant and greenhouse garden room. Our broad wine list and extensive selection of spirits will provide just the right accompaniment for your meal. And as a reward for eating all your veggies, you should treat yourself to a delicious homemade dessert. Afterwards, feel free to stop in at our spirited local tavern for an after dinner drink or a game of darts, with live music in the tavern on most Friday evenings.

“Less Than Mediocre”
Reviewed September 4, 2010

My boyfriend and I visited The Perfect Wife on a Saturday night during Labor Day weekend. We ate upstairs at the tavern part of the restaurant. We entered the building and stood in the entrance way for about a minute before I went to find someone to ask them if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. I received a very akward mumbled answer and a wave of the hand that said "follow me". The tavern was only about 1/4 full of customers.
We were sat at a booth and the waitress came over about 5 minutes later. She was friendly and asked us for our drink orders. She returned about 5 minutes later with our drinks.
We ordered the nachos as an appetizer. My boyfriend ordered the "Sloppy Jane" which is a flatbread stuffed with chicken, cheese, and turkey chili. It was served with fries on the side. I ordered a chipotle caesar salad with a crab cake.
The nachos were served with very basic chips that looked like they came from a bag with a ton of cheese. The cheese was layered, but any cheese that was not on top was not melted. There was about 1/4 cup of chili on the nachos and they were served with very small sides of guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. Mediocre.
The Sloppy Jane was probably the best thing we ordered, but not as inventive as it sounded. The fries were delicious.
My salad was just okay. It was the size of a side salad with one small crab cake for $11.95. The crab cake meat was good, but it was not very flavorful. It was lightly seared on either side and again, not very inventive.
The waitress came back once to check on us after we were basically done with our meal. She was very friendly, but not at all attentive which is surprising since the restaurant was barely occupied. Though the prices were reasonable for going to a restaurant, they seemed high for the quantity and quality of the food offered.
This was less than a mediocre experience to say the least. We both left unsatisfied and greatly disappointed.

“Good food and service”
Reviewed August 30, 2010

The food and service are very good. Most of the patrons are much younger than us (60ish) and so we did not feel that the music and atmosphere were best for us. However, the younger people who were there were certainly having a wonderful time and this was the definite place to be

“Good food but needs to be server warmer”
Reviewed August 26, 2010

Aug. 23, 2010 I ate in the tavern because the restaurant area was not open. Had the Salmon with maple drizzle. This was excellent. However, the rice was not hot, the 4 string beans were hard, the 1/3 of an ear of corn was cold. No bread or salad. Not worth $17. The meatloaf was probably a better deal at $10.

“The Perfect Wife -- Okay, not Perfect”
Reviewed June 28, 2010

The Perfect Wife is basically two restaurants in one. The more casual restaurant is basically a bar that serves food and then there is a more formal restaurant downstairs. I am going to guess that the menu is the same at both with a few more fancy add on in the downstairs restaurant. We ate at the more casual restaurant and had the Daily Soup Special which was okay; the Bistro Chicken which was also okay and the Salmon. I would say if you ate at the more casual restaurant you got a good meal at a decent price, but probably would have felt cheated if I had eaten at the more fancy restaurant downstairs. Service was friendly (as it is in most of Manchester).

“Great if you have a sweet tooth”
Reviewed June 1, 2010

On arrival, The Perfect Wife was exactly what we hoped for in Manchester fine dining - cozy, comfortable atmosphere, attentive service. Things started out well with the bread basket (warm and freshly baked - heavenly) and the appetizers (particularly the duck pancakes and the crab cakes) were excellent. However, we were not as thrilled with the entrees. Everything was well cooked and presented but a little sweet for our tastes. If your dinner preferences trend toward spicy and savory, this is not the place for you, but if you enjoy some sweetness in your meals definitely give it a shot.
