The location is beautiful. In a valley of the Vermont mountains, it is near a little town with restaurants and shops. We were greeted by Jake, a very friendly dog, and the owner. Our room was on the first floor, and had two beds. They were not queen size, either full size or a little smaller, and the beds were not very comfortable. Pillows were very old also, no support. The AC can be set in your room, but since this is Fall, we were looking for the heat control. To change the heat setting, we had to ask the owner, and I think the setting might be for all rooms on the first floor. There was an ashtray right outside our room. Nobody was smoking that night, but it would have been bothersome if they had been.

On a 3 week tour of New England this was the 9th hotel/motel my husband and I had stayed in….. and the first disappointment. We booked an upstairs, deluxe room with king bed. Upstairs it was and with a king bed, but deluxe it wasn’t. The flooring in the bathroom didn’t reach the walls, there was no hairdryer, coffee maker, fridge or microwave in the room. There was an ironing board but no iron. The room decor was old fashioned and in need of renovation. But worst of all was the fact that there was no hot water on the evening of our arrival. I ran the hot water for almost 15 minutes, so it wasn’t a case of it being slow to come through. There was simply no hot water! The following morning there was hot water. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and the outlook was very pleasant.

We booked Olympia Lodge partly as a result of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Unlike other reviewers, however we did not find the owners particularly friendly or helpful. As there was no coffee maker in the room after our meal in the evening we went down to the bar at 9pm to get a coffee, only to be told that “it had all been cleared away, and to come down early for breakfast and there would be some then”. Not the sort of reaction we had expected from somewhere that advertises itself as a friendly establishment. When we mentioned the lack of hot water to Trish as we were checking out, it was patently obvious that she didn’t believe us, and offered no apology.

The hot breakfast was freshly cooked and nice, but the orange juice arrived part way through our cooked breakfast, and there was no cereal or muffins, and the jam for the toast arrived too late for us to have.

This hotel makes a big thing about being family friendly, so maybe it is ok for families who are more concerned about the welcome their children receive than the décor or value for money. We would certainly not recommend it for older couples, expecting good quality accommodation and the usual amenities in their room. During our 3 weeks in New England we stayed at 13 motels/hotels in total and in both family run motels/hotels and chains such as the Comfort Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn, and Best Western, so we had a fair variety of accommodation. At $175 Olympia Lodge was the worst value for money.

We recently spent two nights at the Olympia Lodge on a trip to Vermont. I've been coming to visit this area for well over 30 years and the Olympia Lodge is the most delightful place I've ever stayed. From now on, this is my go to spot in Vermont! Trish and Sal definitely feel like friends that you've known forever. For the animal lovers, do not miss the opportunity to introduce yourself to Jake, the magnificent and friendly golden retriever who serves as official mascot of the hotel. If Jake offers you his ball for a game of catch, you know you are golden! Rooms are large, clean and very comfortable and the heaters in the bathrooms are much appreciated on chilly Vermont mornings. Sal's home cooked breakfasts rival anything that you would get in an area restaurant...if he got tired of the hotel business, he could make a fortune running a breakfast restaurant...his breakfasts are seriously THAT GOOD! We could happily spend an entire weekend camped out in the delightful lobby lounge complete with fireplace, a little pub, twinkling electric holiday lights wrapped around the support beams and the most delightful collection of family photos, knick-knacks, Hummel figurines and scented candles. People, this IS Vermont! The Olympia Lodge has every ounce of New England charm that you could possibly imagine and staying with Trish and Sal is like coming home to spend time with beloved family. Just go there. Now. You will be so glad you did!

Room Tip: The entire hotel is lovely but older people or people with mobility issues should ask for a room on the lower level.

My friend and I stayed here for two nights and will be back again next year. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the views are lovely but what makes it special is the welcome from the owners (and their dog Jake). Nothing was too much trouble and they could not have been more helpful. A good breakfast set us up well for the day, and there is so much to see and do in the area that we could have spent much longer there without getting bored.

I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend on a recent trip to Vermont to visit the area. We couldn't have been more delighted with this hotel. It is in an absolutely stunning location, the rooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious, the rest of the lodge is charming and cosy, and above all, the family who run it are absolutely delightful. They are such friendly, welcoming people, nothing is too much trouble. We liked it so much we will be returning at the same time next year, and I plan to take my own family for ski visits over the winter. A really fantastic find and I can't wait to go back.
