“Great Anniversary Getaway”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We picked the Equinox for our wedding anniversary in the Fall. The hotel is a great property set in a beautiful part of Vermont. The Spa and associated restaurants were fantastic and our standard room was also set up nicely and a good size. A few details of our stay were below expectations but to the total credit of the hotel staff they recognized issues and sought to resolve them with us, for the most part successfully.

The service at the beginning was great (nice valet men to great you) but then declined upon entering the Townhomes. We entered the main hallway to our 1st floor king bedroom (which was a $20 upgrade + tax) and was astonished at how outdated (the room and bathroom cabinets looked like they had been there since the 80's) and dirty (skid marks on the walls and doors - even parts where I couldn't understand what it would have been, bathtub bottom scratched and would not drain when taking a shower, and dirty bathroom counter were) the hallway and room were. After reading the reviews below, I can see what everyone means. The room is extremely small with 2 closests, with one massive enough to sleep in? The walls paper thin (could hear people stomping upstairs), the internet botchy and slow when it decided to work, and paid movies out of synch with sound and picture. Checked out the hot tub thinking I could relax, and it turns out to be outside, not to temp, and start button not functioning, and to top it was small enough for only 2 or people to fit in. Wow... to end, did not receive morning paper and we got charged for the room on our credit card despite the fact of having a voucher. I called and it took them all day to get back to me and received an incorrect "updated" receipt STILL stating the charge to the credit card.

As noted by "Doozy44" our arrival was extremely pleasant. The reception staff was very friendly and courtious. We were directed to the Townhouse and told where to park. There was no room to park by our room and had to park in a gravel area by the tennis court. (should have been a warning of things to come). When we opened the door to our townhouse first floor room, our reaction of SHOCK is putting it mildly. The room was extremely small....a queen bed with a white (seen better days) bed spread......there was a table next to the bed on one side with a lamp on it that took half the table top......the bathroom was so small, you had to close the door to use the sink to wash your hands.....the closet was half the size of the bathroom with a 2 drawer chest......the distance to the TV and the end of the bed was, maybe 3 feet. There were 2 ceiling to floor windows with shades that had to be down to have any privacey, which made the room very dark....there was no room for a small table or chairs so if you wanted to have food delivered to your room, you would have to sit on the bed to eat....as well as to just talk or watch TV. The color of the walls was a drab yukky color (have no idea what the color was)....no pictures to make it feel warm and welcoming. I will say this, the room was very clean....this is good.....however, for the price one pays to stay in these rooms (over $300 per night) one would expect more than just clean.....also, the walls are very thin and one can hear the folks in next room talking, doors slamming, visiting dogs barking. We told the reception clerk how we felt and we were offered to have breakfast on them....breakfast buffet. We declined their offer. We have no idea what the Inn rooms look like and we have no desire to find out. This experience has totally turned us off of visiting Manchester, VT any longer.

Have stayed at the Equinox several times. The location is downtown Manchester Center which is very pretty, and quite peaceful. The grounds of the Equinox are beautiful, and there is a nice spa, also fitness center and indoor swimming pool. The rooms are just OK, nothing fantastic. ...but always clean. The service is wonderful, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Do be sure to look for deals on the internet or on their site, as the rates vary dramatically.
Would definitely go back, but I think the rooms are starting to show some wear. If you chose to stay there , stay in the main hotel, not the townhouses. 4th floor rooms are always quieter and sunnier too.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor are quieter and sunnier. Request a view of Mount Equinox if possible. Some...

What a stunning hotel and location. Ok, the weather was kind, but we had a wonderful 3 days based at this hotel. The room was stunning - thank you for the Gold member upgrade - the outdoor hot tub soooo relaxing and the Chop House perfect for a celebration meal. The service was great too.

Manchester itself was a great base, but don't expect much from the outlets.

We arrived at the Equinox hotel looking forward to our stay in the green mountains. We received a very warm welcome from the reception staff and were very quickly directed to the town houses at the back of the hotel. What a disappointment! The rooms are basic to say the least and as mentioned by a couple of other reviewers the rooms have seen better days. The views of the mountains were great but that didn't make up for the peeling wall paper and hairs in the sink. Be warned ... We stayed on the ground floor and we could hear every movement of the people staying in the room above. The walls are paper thin and you could hear the doors banging as people left their rooms. It's a real shame as the hotel itself is lovely.

This is what we sent to the Equinox:

I have just filled out the survey linked to this email. I hope the results of the survey are beneficial to you to make improvements. We have been significantly disappointed with the recent stay our parents endured. They began their 8/8/13 stay by entering a room with a strange smell, slanted floors, peeling wallpaper, and hair in the bathtub. They went to enjoy the salt water pool and found out it was closed for their entire stay due to some child urinating in it. From their they tried to use the outdoor hot tub which they found littered with children (probably because the pool was closed for so long). My parents reported then went back to the room exhausted of their experience, tried to take a bath and found they had no hot water - my mother in law was crying at this point. They finally found the bath to produce hot water but could not hold the water - so it just drained slowly out. Overall their experience was horrible. We were ashamed for purchasing this for them - it was a gift for their 35th wedding anniversary. Please take this has a chance to make grave improvements to the resort. We don't want anyone else - especially our family to go through something like this again.

As a result they called to confirm and we repeated what was just wrote then did nothing - stating our parents should have called and reported the discrepancies. In talking to our parents, we found out they did, and the front desk never called them back! The Inn did not provide us with a refund or much less a future free stay - as we have money being held hostage there because of a groupon deal they refused to let us use in helping our parents stay. I am beyond disgusted with this place!
