Located in Manchester, VT, Southern Vermont Art Center (SVAC), this museum primarily exhibits excellent juried artwork: paintings, photography, graphic art, by artists mostly from the New England area. In addition there are special exhibits of high quality in an annex modern building.
Lunch is served at the museum Thursday – Sunday at the Café Sora, a Japanese inspired restaurant, which has both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is open only during the summer months.

Iconic photos of “The Greatest” and other sports legends in the heart of Vermont? Yes!
...And this is just one of the fantastic art exhibits the Southern Vermont Arts Center hosted this summer. Amazing urban-inspired collages, landscapes and scenes capturing the bucolic country settings of the area, and modern sculptures have all been part of this summer’s gallery offerings.

Additionally, there have been wonderful musical performances, talkbacks, and other events.

The grounds alone are worth a trip. Simply gorgeous with walking trails dotted with striking modern sculptures.

Finally, an Asian-inspired lunch is offered on the patio. The perfect topper to a fabulous afternoon immersed in the arts.

Surely one of Manchester and the Shires of Vermont’s cultural treasures. A not-to-be-missed activity when visiting the area.

For locals, be sure to check out the fantastic art classes offered for kids and adults.

One section had a display of the quilts of Susan Hoffmann and mixed media art from Peter Hoffmann who are brother and sister. Very nice display in a beautiful building. Across from this is a building with a more permanent display of sketches and paintings done locally.

Winding up a hill just outside Manchester Center, you soon arrive at the Southern Vermont Arts Center. There are some odd sculptures in the fields as you approach the center. The two galleries are in beautiful, well maintained buildings. One is an older farm house, and has a cafe onsite. The other looks like a farm house on the outside, but is a stunning modern design on the inside. The older building generally displays paintings (especially those by member artists), and the newer displays installations and mixed media of various sorts. It’s free to enter, although they accept donations, and it’s a great way to spend an hour or two. Most of the art is for sale and it’s really tempting.
