“Not to be missed”

The house always has a good exhibit of local art. This is free. Do the botany trail. It is interesting with beautiful views. There is also another museum and they often have concerts in the summer as well.

“Rare insight to Vermont Art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Southern Vermont Art Center has a long history of supporting local artists, among whom have spawned Ogden Pleissner, Luigi Luicioni, and Reginald Marsh. The whole town is a wonderful creative nurturing place. There are a number of different Art shows that display a very different style of southern Vermont art. The Sculpture Garden on the long winding drive up to the buildings is an experience in it's own. Pretty special place.

“Nice for a small town venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

The drive UP to the Art Center is long, steep and lovely but you better drive slow and on your side of the narrow road. You will see pieces of sculptue on the sides of the road and when you arrive at the top. Once up, there are several buildings. It is not obvious what goes on in each but they are fairly close so it's not a hardship to find someone to ask. You will find some good local art ther but don't expect Degas or Botticelli. The Art Center also has a good venue for concerts, ballet and film.

“Manchester Music Festival”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

Manchester has been "a must stop” for travelers in Southern Vermont for decades. The five stars Equinox Hotel is famous for its imposing architecture, luxurious accommodations and superior cuisine’
For more frugal travelers there is a wide variety of inns, motels and eating establishments. Manchester and nearby towns are home to numerous art galleries, museums and Vermont specialty stores.
The “must attend" summer event for the last 39 years has been the Manchester Music Festival.
In 2013 there are series of eight concerts on Thursdays from July 11th through August 25th.
Please go to: www. mmfvt.org for all the information on this festival and its world class musicians.
My wife and I live in New York City since 1972 and traveled to many European cities famous for their classical musicians.
The Manchester Festival musicians are definitely on a par with any of their colleagues in larger venues.

“Nice grounds and interesting exhibit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

While the exhibits didn't really grab us, the grounds are very pretty and there are a lot of large outdoor sculptures which are very cool. I don't think I would make a special trip to see this, but if you are into art, definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
