“Beautiful by day... Noisy by night”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

We just spent a long weekend here, and could not have found a more beautiful place. The Falcon Bar, pool, grounds and common areas were wonderful. Great hikes, cocktails and fresh air. Cider donuts and coffee on the terrace with the NYTimes can't be beat.

The downside was the noise in the hallways, banging doors, loud conversations and barking dogs... yes dogs outside our room late into the night and early mornings. A simple fix to the slamming doors would be a big improvement. Perhaps it was our room upgrade in the main building, first floor. Would be willing to give this place another go but not without a guarantee of a quieter room.

We stayed in room 139 which was by the back door and should be used as a storage room or staff support - certainly not a $500+/ night guest. The room had little furniture which meant hanging out in the room was weird. Sleeping... not an option. The exterior door banged every few minutes until about 11pm, never locked, then starting at 5am the banging began again. The kids, the dogs, the conversations... might has well have been inside our room. They did move us the second night to a much nicer room. After seeing this, they should have comped our night but there was no offer.
I do have to say, the hotel is also very dated and worn. There was a strange oder in all common areas - mold? There was mold in both of our showers - yuck!
On the upside, the beds weren't bad.
For the price, definitely NOT worth the money!

This is my first TripAdvisor entry, but I use TripAdvisor all the time!

We have been to the Equinox a few times, but haven't yet posted on TripAdvisor about why we always come back. We have talked to others about how great it is many times, however.

Let's start at the beginning - when you arrive there are folks like Harry greeting you at your car as though you are arriving to your family reunion and your favorite uncle (aka Uncle Harry) is waiting to see you. His genuine smile and warm-hearted charm let you know from the start that this is going to be another great visit. The rest of the bell/valet staff look to him as the gold standard to strive towards and they all are well on their way.

Arriving at the front desk feels as though they have been waiting all day just for you. Again the cursory required documents are accompanied with sincere questions like "how was your travel", "where are you coming from", and the one that every hotel employee in the world is instructed to ask "let me know if we can do anything to make your stay more enjoyable". This is the keystone question at The Equinox! Every single employee -- from the General Manager to the Kitchen staff at breakfast -- will do whatever they can to make your stay better. As someone who travels almost every week for work and thus spends a great deal of time in hotels, I would love for more hotels to follow this practice, however that sadly is not the case. Thank you, Equinox staff, for your commitment to excellence.

The room - this trip we were in the main hotel overlooking the back deck/fire pit in a king deluxe room. It was huge -- we had 2 rollaway beds in it and didn't even seem to notice that they were in there. The room was very clean and everything was in 100% working order. Since we were in a corner room, we had a front row seat to the mountains behind the Hotel, which is a great view when you first wake up.

The back deck is a perfect place to relax prior to heading out to dinner for the night. Don't miss out on the spectacular cheese plates with all the accompaniments and a drink. Repeat guests know that it is best to arrive early there to sit around the fire pit because as the sun goes down, so does the temperature. And if cheese plates aren't your style, there are great pretzel rods in jars at the bar!

Breakfast at the Equinox is amazing -- it definitely isn't your standard breakfast bar. All the fruit is fresh and local, many of the breads are made in-house, and with too many other items to list - all are measured to the same level of expectations found here. As always, don't miss the omelette and waffle station along the way. If you got to Vermont, you must have local maple syrup.

If you get a chance, have lunch at the golf club -- sit outside, enjoy the food, take in the sights and drink in what life at The Equinox is all about - family, friends and finding time to enjoy it all!

So if you find yourself passing somewhere near Manchester, VT, do yourself a favor. Stop by and join a great family. Why go anywhere else?!

My wife and I have been visiting the Equinox a couple of times a year now for the last 4 years, and always plan our summer holiday with the kids to stop off there before heading home. All of the staff are so professional and there is obviously a very high retention rate, a mark of a well run establishment. The concierge desk is the best I've ever encountered. The rooms are clean and remarkabley well maintained for such a venerable building. We enjoy dining on the front porch so much, we've only recently started to take advantage of the free shuttle to other area restaurants. Our visits never fail to restore us. There is nothing quite like sitting by the outside fire with one of their fabulous cheese plates and watching the stars over the mountains while talking with other guests.

After reading some of the reviews I must say that I agree that there are parts of the Equinox that could use a revamp/renovation. However, it is a historic property and so I will give it a pass for it's old world Colonial charm.

I booked my room under a governmental rate and the cost was 1/3rd the rack rate, which was amazing. I didn't feel that the staff treated me any different than those that had paid $$$$ to stay. I would guess the resort was nearly booked, as there was a horse show/competition happening in the area.

Manchester is charming and lovely and the views from the resort are amazing.

The staff was helpful and attentive. The valet parking, which elsewhere has been tiresome, particularly when you want to come and go, was handled professionally with very prompt service.

I will definitely go back to the Resort and stay longer next time.

We stayed and played at the lovely old Equinox, the highlight of our New England trip. Every little detail of the resort is well thought out, from the iced towelettes in the mens' room at the spa (I imagine that the womens' side had them too) to the cheese tasting at the bar. The best service I have found at any hotel outside Europe. And the town offers some off-beat amusements like the school of falconry and the fly fishing, if golf and tennis and swimming aren't your thing.

The restaurant is in a class by itself. Again the best food we had on our trip. The delicious breakfast continental buffet lasted me all day through to dinner time. Sitting outside of the bar and watching the sun go down behind the near-by mountain ridge was magic.

Green Features: the hotel recycles, limits the distribution of unwanted newspapers, and offers an inducement to forego daily replacement of towels. Shower water is comfortably warm but not hot.
