“Great Girls Weekend!”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

Went last weekend to the luxury girls getaway weekend. The property is beautiful and well maintained. Very cozy outdoor fire pit/bar. Lots of spots to sit and enjoy fire places throughout the hotel. The food and entertainment included in the luxury girls weekend was very good and i would highly recommend the fresh chocolate chip cookies available at the gift shop! Complimentary hot choc by the fire, wireless internet, and water bottles in room were nice addition.
The spa is nice although the main room is small and uncomfortable for more than 4 people. The hot tub is also small and there was usually a wait. The pedicure was the best one I had ever had!
Had repeated problems with making reservations, billing, and check out which made an otherwise wonderful weekend a little annoying (which makes my review a very good instead of excellent). Also walls were very thin. It sounded like the guy in the next room snoring was in my bed as opposed to behind the wall. Had to use a noise machine to get some sleep.

Room Tip: Away from bar! We were directly above it and they have live music which is great unless you are try...

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at the Equinox - we were also traveling with our 6 month old. We stayed in a single room on the 2nd floor of the main building.

The upsides to our stay - all of our interactions with hotel staff (from valet to front desk to bellhop to waiter at the Chop House) were very pleasant and professional; the hotel has a lovely interior with fireplaces in the common areas and an elegant feel; car retrieval was prompt; bedding was comfortable; bathroom was very spacious. The location of the hotel is also very close to the Manchester Designer Outlets and a day of shopping is less than half a mile away.

The big negative for me was the noise level that could be heard in the common areas. Our room was on the 2nd floor, not far from the elevator and we could hear every conversation in the hall with people being loud (perhaps forgetting common courtesy for their neighbors?); the elevator noise; etc. Our baby was woken up briefly by someone slamming a door close to our room around 10:30 one night. My husband and I commented to each other that it seemed like we might as well not even have a door to our room - it felt like we were standing right there with each conversation being had in the hallway. Perhaps his woldn't have been such an issue if we had been given a room farther from a place where people tend to congregate in the hallway...(hotel was packed the weekend of our stay so no hope of requesting a room transfer). We also could hear the footsteps of the guest(s) in the room above ours and to be fair, they probably also had the pleasure of hearing our baby cry once in awhile. But please note that this is an older building and the sound insulation one might be accustomed to in newer resort properties just is not there.

Room Tip: Request a room not near the elevators if possible. Hallway conversations / noise is quite audible fr...

My recent stay at the Equinox found me in a very small but well furnished room near the lobby. At 1am I was STILL being kept awake by people laughing in the corridor, calling out to one another, and generally taking no account of the time or that they were in a public area. I know it is an old building, but perhaps some soundproofing is in order. For dinner I went to the Falcon and had the beet salad and the wild salmon followed by the apple crisp and coffee. The bill, for one, came to over $75 which was and is absurd for the quality of the food. The coffee tasted old and burnt, the apple crisp was undercooked with practically raw oatmeal on top (the ice cream was good), and the salmon was tasty but accompanied by 4 laughably cute twice baked new potatoes and the worst version of spaghetti squash I have ever had. On my way home to Maine I stopped at Simon Pearce in Quechee; I suggest the Equinox chef take a road trip for some lessons. Finally, I discovered that the swimming pool is in a separate building that you have to access by going outside, and it was sleeting. Not worth it.

Room Tip: As far down the corridor as possible so you don't have to listen to latecomers. The vaunted vie...

A quintessential New England charmer, The Equinox Resort and Spa is a great place to unwind and forget the troubles of the world. There are plenty of spacious rooms to choose from, though the prices in high-season can be excessive. But if you are looking for a relaxing few days away from it all and you don't mind going in the off-season, this is a great option for anyone in the area. We elected to stay Sunday through Wednesday for the best options on rooms (SPG Platinum members take note: if you book mid-week in the off-season you stand a good chance of a luxury suite upgrade). We were put in the Eisenhower Suite, which includes an upstairs cupola living room with 360 degree views of the mountains. The main bedroom on the third floor is VERY spacious and has plenty of natural light from five large windows. Both rooms feature a flat panel TV. No bath tub in the bathroom but a spacious shower that easily accomodates two if you want to save water ;-)  This suite included a Bose radio/CD player as well as a fridge. There is a desk in the main bedroom and in the upstairs living room - which also includes a sofa bed if you want to put one or two children out of the way. While we were there (early November) there was always a log fire burning in the large fireplace in one of the two lobby areas (though we were never able to sit there as the few seats around the fire were always occupied). The Falcon Bar is a cozy place to meet in the evening and wine and cheese is always on the menu (in fact, that and chocolates is all that's on the menu). The restaurant offers both a pub menu or a more formal option. Both seem pricey but nothing more than you would expect for this kind of hotel (and food in Manchester seemed overpriced everywhere). We had breakfast through room service on one day and I have to say it was much better than anything we could get elsewhere in town. I had poached eggs and ham steak. The eggs were perfect and the ham was a half inch thick! The patio outside the Falcon Bar includes a fire pit for warm evenings. The Spa is well-equipped, though the gym had only rudimentary strength training equipment plus a couple of treadmills, cycles and elipticals. The pool is large which is great for a good workout. The changing rooms include a sauna and steam room, one in each so you can't have a shared sauna with your loved one. The changing rooms also include a full range of toiletries. The staff at the hotel were outstanding making the whole experience highly memorable. I will definitely consider returning - highly recommended.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful three days at The Equinox Resort & Spa while foliage was at it's peak in Southern VT. Our trip up was met with a few detours due to the damage sustained by Hurricane Irene, but we also gained an enjoyable tour of back roads through the mountains. We now have an appreciation for what those people went through as well as those in Northwestern MA. The Equinox has everything to offer for enjoyment and relaxation. We had a lovely large room looking out at the colorful trees and historic Manchester Village Center. There were a number of renovations completed that definitely were a step up from a few years ago. One cannot go hungry with five restaurant choices on premises. We did not participate utilizing the Spa this time around, but unlike other places the spa is located in a separate building right in the courtyard.

Three things were available for enjoyment and were made available for reservations at the Concierge Desk. Archery School (May-Oct), British School of Falconry where you have hands on experience with falcons from excellent instructors, and my favorite is the Manchester Hot Glass where one can learn how to create their own glass bowl or more learning the technique of glass blowing.

Definitely a great place to take that special person or the entire family.

On any rainy or clear day you have the Manchester Designer Outlets for family shopping.

Room Tip: Do not stay in any of the three rooms above the reception area on the lobby floor. The better rooms...

The hotel is renovated, rooms are spacious and nice. Clean. There are 2 restaurants and bar/lounge with in the hotel. Nice spa with big indoor pool. The hot tub i though was too small, and it was not properly working during our stay. I did get a massage at the spa and that was fantastic! I think this is a good weekend option for couples and people who'd like to relax. The hotel offers shuttle to the center of the town for shopping or dining out. This was great, as you just call the hotel and get picked up :) Also nice and friendly valet. Overall we had a very pleasant stay and would return and recommend to others.

The good: a gorgeous location, some beautiful common areas, a spectacular spa, an A+ experience with the Land Rover driving school, and the occasional very helpful, friendly staff member.
The bad: a rambling old building, renovated in some places, and kind of reminiscent of The Shinig in others. An inattentive, unhappy, occasionally smug bartender at a Sunday night (not inexpensive) dinner at the bar. A generally understaffed spot -- it took 25 minutes to get someone to refill the coffee urn on our first morning -- had to finally walk out of the hotel and ask the valet if he could help (he did and was very apologetic).
The ugly: housekeeping. Ouch. Our bed had two flat sheets (no fitted) and a dime-thin mattress pad, all of which slipped off of the mattress within the first few minutes. In other words, we woke up with our heads on the bare mattress. The duvet on our king bed seemed to be a full/queen size, which barely came to the edges of the bed. And our washcloths were hung over the shower curtain rod, which was not particularly clean.
Despite the beautiful setting and great spa experience, The Equinox was a disappointment.
