“Wonderful Hotel in a Great Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

We spent one night in this great little hotel on a tour of New England. We would go back for the town and the hotel. We had a large, comfortable room with a very large bathroom. Staff was friendly and attentive. A full breakfast, included in the price of the room, was delicious. We particularly enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the cool early summer weather with an after-dinner drink.

My husband took me out for a special birthday dinner in the restaurant. Joe, our server was excellent, very attentive, knowledgable and friendly. We sat next to the window, which had a beautiful view of the backyard with a fountain, flowers and a bridge. The cheese plate was wonderful with local Vermont cheese (highly recommend). I had the sirloin entree which was very tender and tasty, my husband had the special of the night, port medallions which were also flavorful. We shared the creme brulee for dessert, which was a bit disappointing. Overall a very enjoyable night. Prices are on the high end. The Inn is very beautiful and looks like it would be a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: For the restaurant. Ask for the table by the back window (in the summer) and for the winter months...

My husband and I just returned from a Vermont vacation. We stayed all over the state. However, we cannot wait to return to The Reluctant Panther. The inn is comfortable, clean, and elegant! The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating to any request we had. We also ate dinner in the restaurant and it was the best dinner we had in Vermont. The scallops were to die for and The Reluctant Panther martini was the best drink I've ever had. It was a wonderful escape from reality for a few days. We hiked during the day and were able to relax in the comfort of the inn. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone staying in Manchester. To those not going to Vermont, the inn is a reason to change your plans!

Located in Manchester Village, the Reluctant Panther is a lovely boutique inn with excellent accommodations, service and food, and not to mention a stunning location in the heart of the beautiful Green Mountains. Our Justin Morgan Suite had an incredibly comfortable king bed, gas fireplace in a sitting area and huge jacuzzi tub. The rate included turndown and a delicious and beautifully presented breakfast. We didn't dine at the inn, but it is also very well regarded. There is a number of outlet shops a short drive or longer walk down Route 7. Hildene, Todd Lincoln's family home, is just down the street and worth the visit. The home has self-guided tours with knowledgeable volunteers to assist. The gardens are beautiful, and it is also the home to a restored Pullman car and working farm. Equinox Pond is a short run away. I am speaking from my husband's description, which is 'stunning'. If you want to people watch, walk down to the Equinox Hotel for a beverage on the porch. Equinox mountain is also an option for a drive to the top or a more ambitious hike. To return back to the Boston area, we took Route 2 which was a lush and winding drive through the mountains. A lovely weekend trip and worth every bit of the distance from home and the splurge.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Snowflake and Justin Morgan Suites. Both are in the main inn. We ended up ge...

We stayed in a "Superior Room" at the Reluctant Panther and felt like we were in our own cozy little house! A mudroom held our bicycle and wet umbrellas and a long staircase led to a charming place to relax. The apartment had two sides: a tv and couch to one side and a bedroom with king sized bed, TV, fireplace and chair the other. A large, comfortable bathroom and a Keuring machine and fridge completed the amenities. It was great! Breakfast was delicious too.

We had no trouble walking or biking between the Inn and other places in Manchester.

The staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions for safe biking routes and were also generous about a late checkout time for us.

We'll certainly return.
