“"Keep the children out of the bar"”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

Just came back from a very expensive weekend...skiing was great, staff very friendly. We stayed in the executive room in the Inn itself...it was okay, bedding cheap...I hate that slippery bed spread, just reminds me of a bad motel room. The bar in the lobby is overrun with kids...I realize this is a family resort, but c'mon they take it over!! I saw a three year old taking up an entire leather couch sucking his thumb and napping. I was with our youngest...he is 18 and he sat outside the bar area!! I saw a family pull 5 bar stools from the bar and form a little circle so their young children could sit....it is out of control!!!

I was nervous after reading some of these reviews, but went ahead and booked anyway. I told the booking rep about the negative reviews and she was surprised, apologetic and very helpful. I asked her advice on which building she would suggest and she offered that Bixby has same priced 1-bed studio, but with a king stationary bed and pull-out (3rd floor). Bigger than the standard rooms in the Inn and Adams buildings. We were very happy with room, well-kept, clean, spacious, full kitchen with D/W, microwave, oven, full fridge, great fireplace, clean bathroom, great shower! Separate room with washer/dryer. Huge entry area for ski boots, coats, snow pants and all that stuff. Not a slope-side view, but we were ok with that - worth the extra space. Bixby was definitely quieter than the Inn, less rooms, less people, less hub-bub. Heated garages were great, no snow accumulating on car, rooftop box fit underneath. Walked out of room, down one floor and around the corner to the outdoor lockers where we locked our skis overnight, clipped in and skied off to the lifts.

A few down sides:
- As other reviewers stated - SO noisy with other people walking around. I wish I had brought a noise machine or loud fan to drown out the footsteps of the people upstairs.
- The hot tub was a good ways from the building. Wish it were closer, as it was about 4 degrees on Sunday!
- The pool is in the Inn and we walked down to it once. It was a hike, not very convenient. If a pool is where you'll be frequenting, I would stay in the Inn or at least in Adams, not Bixby. However, the Inn was BUZZING with activity when we were there - lots of people!
- The room TV was pretty small and high up, above fireplace. While lying in bed, the angle of viewing was such that the screen could not be seen well. We propped the TV with a few books in the back so it leaned forward and made it more viewable, so not a terrible issue.

We had no problems at all with the staff. Everyone was very accommodating, from check-in to asking for extra toiletries, to calling for info on ice skating, to needing first aid (uh-oh) to check-out. They offered help with our bags and personally escorted us to first aid. First Aid/Ski Patrol was wonderful as well.

Kids (15 and 13) absolutely loved it and want to go back again. We packed a bunch of breakfast and lunch foods to cut down on costs. Next time, I'll pack even more and perhaps buy some dinner foods at the local market, since the kitchen was fully stocked.

Overall, a really great trip and one we'll remember for a long time to come!

Room Tip: Go top floor so you don't hear others walking around

My husband & I stayed in an executive king over MLK weekend. Room was of good size, but there was no way to turn on the gas fireplace and the HDTV was very small, making it touch difficult to see at all times from the bed. Mattress was saggy and lumpy. Paid primarily for the location and convenience because I hate putting on ski boots in parking lots at 20 degrees! Friendly house keeping staff, though!

Enjoyed dinner at the Coleman Brook Tavern. Thanks be to a merciful God, they had a child free dining room, which was very important because this is a place overrun with children (they even congregate at the bar). At one point, two small tots wandered in (uber permissive parenting the norm among this set) and a waitress, bless her heart, immediately swooped down upon them before they could wreak noisy havoc and saw them to their desired destination.

Skiing was, as usual outstanding, for Southern Vermont. They truly do an outstanding job on the snowmaking and grooming.

We decided upon a ski trip for our 9 (almost 10) year old girls this year for Christmas. We did a ton of research and decided that Jackson Gore Inn looked right up our alley. From our first encounter with the front desk, it was clear that they were there to make our stay a pleasant one. We arrived early and despite being painfully aware of the 5 p.m. check-in, they worked hard to accommodate us and were able to get us in our room hours before the stated check-in time. The room was tastefully decorated, immaculate and gorgeous views from every angle. We could not have been happier with our choice of the loft room. Our experiences with everyone there from housekeeping, front desk, ski rental, etc. was completely professional, friendly and positive. The outdoor pool and Jacuzzi were a ton a fun, and the girls' fingers looked like raisons before they were willing to come in despite it being January! If there was any negative at all, it would simply be with the poorly equipped kitchen. We had very little silverware (had to use measuring spoons to eat yogurt), one wine glass and just simply was ill-equipped. That said, I am sure that we could have any missing items delivered to us if we requested...we just didn't. In short, I would not hesitate to visit Jackson Gore Inn again and do this trip all over again. A++ experience for all of us!

We loved staying at the Jackson Gore Inn. Staff was friendly and accommodating and our studio was well equipped and very clean. The Inn bar and atmosphere were great! Only complaints were that the outdoor hot tubs were not fully functional and closed at 9pm (to early) and they need to offer casual family dining after 5 pm. We like to be able to relax with our kids in a casual, cozy atmosphere, enjoy a few cocktails and watch sports on TV after a full day of skiing. We had to drive in to town to do that (though it is a short drive)! All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.
