“Good Location, Great Value! Will be back.”
Reviewed January 28, 2007

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Greenbrier last weekend. It our first time visiting Killington. Accomodations are clean and very spacious with a rustic feel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is good -- a few hundred feet from Killington Rd., the main road with restaurants leading to the lifts...its about 1 mile to the restaurants and 5 miles from the lifts. The price was great too, we paid $135 a night for a large room with a double bed. The room had a TV, small fridge, table w/ chairs, and a balcony. Hotel also offers wireless internet for $5.

My only complaints are that the walls are too thin and the nearly non-existent breakfast. The inn wasn't crowded when we were there and we could still hear people in other rooms and could hear faucets running. It wasn't bad, but it would be a big turnoff if its crowded and you're a sensitive sleeper. The breakfast consisted of cereal, milk, coffee, and orange juice, which is too light before a day of skiing.

All in all it was a good hotel and a great value for the area. Recommended.

We had a great stay at the Greenbrier Inn. The people that work there are REALLY nice, very helpful and very knowledgable. The owners gave great advice on where to eat, what bars to go to, and we were even given free admission passes to one of the most popular bars in town. We ate at Charity's in town and they had great food. We went to the Pickle Barrel on Thursday night and it was really packed...we had alot of fun. We booked our trip through the Killington Resort website, but the owner told us to call him directly next time for a better rate (they can do packages that include lift tickets as well). One thing I would recommend is to bring an electric kettle with you if you want tea, coffee, cider in your room because this is not included in the room. You do get a small bar fridge which was great for storing snacks, lunches for snowboarding the next day etc. There is what they call 'light continental' breakfast here...it includes coffee, tea, orange juice, and danish. If you are looking for a hearty breakfast that is provided by the hotel this is not the place for you. We stayed for 3 nights and this was the most economical for us. One warning though...when the maid comes in to clean your room they DO turn the heat down, so the room is a bit colder than it should be when you return. This wasnt really a problem for me though because I went straight into the tub for a bath as soon as we got back from snowboarding. We never spoke to the owners about this, but I'm sure they would leave the heat alone if you requested them to do so. They are so nice and accomodating that I really can't say anything negative. Overall we had a fabulous trip and I can't believe how reasonable the rate was.

  • Liked — Owners were knowlegable, helpful, with alot of connections to other businesses in the community
  • Disliked — The maid turns down the heat during the day

I decided to stay at the Greenbrier after reading all the positive reviews here. The staff certainly was friendly, and the room was clean and spacious. The location, right at the corner of the Killington Access Road, was convenient as well. Breakfast was a little disappointing, consisting of hot or cold cereal, coffee or OJ, and a store-bought Danish. This seems to be the trend for many bed and breakfasts in the area- they seem to forget the breakfast part should actually mean something. My biggest complaint was the noise though. I could clearly hear every conversation as well as the TV from the room next door, even though they were simply talking normally and didn’t have the volume very high. The walls were simply too thin. You could also hear every footstep from the room above, and if the water was running, it sounded like there was a waterfall in your room. If it wasn't for the noise, this would have been a great stay.

  • Liked — The room size and location
  • Disliked — the noise!
  • Tips/Secrets — try to book a room on the second floor

We stayed here for one night on a family tour of New Engand. The owners made us feel extremely welcome and were very helpful with information about places to visit and resturants to eat at. The room was large, well maintained and the beds large and comfortable. The children appreciated the magazines and board games available around the inn. There was no air con but we didnt need it and a fan was provided. Only problems were that there was no coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast was good although basic and there was no decaff coffee available which meant my husband was unable to have any. All in all we had a great stay. It is not with the main hotels up at the main ski area but only a 5 min drive away.

  • Liked — Hospitable owners
  • Disliked — No coffee in rooms
  • Tips/Secrets — Take a kettle etc

Just returned from a mid week ski trip at Killington. We booked the Greenbrier based on the excellent reviews it received on this website. We were not disappointed, and it lived up to the wonderful reviews.

Although the Inn is old, it has character. It is well maintained, and the washroom facilities have been updated. Our room was spacious, clean and non smoking, and had a handy bar fridge.

As others have mentioned, the proprieters, Steve and Otto, went out of their way to make us feed at home, and were friendly and helpful. We lingered over breakfast, and met and chatted with other Inn guests; a most pleasant experience.

Its no wonder that people come back year after year.

We took everybody's advice and decided to stay here while we went to killington for the first time. Maybe we got a bad room and just had bad room service. But, I didn't think of it so great compared to everyone else. First of all, for a couple it is not romantic in my defintion. The small queen size bed was hard, which did not make the trip back from a hard day of skiing any easier. I found that the bathroom wallpaper was not kept up to shape. Peeling off in the corners of the room.
There is "continental" breakfast but it is a choice of either coffee or orange juice and then a slice of danish from the local grocery store. What makes this part uncomfortable is that you can't just get the food yourself. They serve it to you then leave the area. So, you naturally feel rude to say "hey, can you come back so I can get some more?" I think they do this to cut down on the waste.
Finally, on the top of the list is that they did not clean the room everyday. We came back to on our last day to an bed that was not made and towels that we left on the floor to be exchanged. I thought that this was a hotel. Isn't it regular service to get fresh towels and sheets? The funny thing is that everyday we came back from skiing, the heat in our room was turned down so that we would come back to a cold room. What bothered us the most is that on our last night, they were able to come into the room to turn down the heat( to save the heating bill) but then left our room unmade.
But, on the lighter side, they were helpful in giving advice on restaurants and had cool magazines all around the place.

We stayed at the Inn during Thanksgiving weekend. It was the perfect vacation. The Inn is inviting and warm as are its friendly owners. The rooms are very clean and large with private balconies. The Greenbrier location is fantastic: a very short drive to Killington and Pico ski resorts and all area restaurants and shops. The people that work at the Greenbrier directed us to attractions and restaurants that we would not have found on our own. Their recommendations were perfect.

A visit to the adjacent Greenbrier gift shop is a must. Three stories of gorgeous home decorating items and great baby gifts!

We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back.
