“Good family, non-luxury, vacation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

This was a solid family vacation. Our family of 4 (2 teenage boys) stayed in one condo and our cousins stayed in another. The great thing was that once we parked the car, we never had to get in it until we left the resort. We walked to downhill skiing, cross country skiing, ice skating, the pool, restaurants, etc. In other words, this is a self contained resort. The condo was fine. Very spacious, good showers, plenty of dishes, etc. It is nothing fancy, and we paid a small fortune over the christmas week. Still, I would go back here because it was so easy. There were families with very small children and families with college age kids here. The downhill skiing was fun and the cross country was beautiful. There is really nothing else to do here, so bring a good book, wine, some cards, games, etc. Do not go here expecting a high end resort -- it is just not that. It is simply a good place for families to ski.

Room Tip: Try to stay within walking distance of the welcome center.

This place is gross.
The condos are all outdated, dirty and the paint is chipped away at most of them. There is so many things to say. I understand that high speeds ruin trails, but the proposed six pack is dumb. If you're worried about "destroying your trails", then add a high speed quad and several new, wider trails. The lines are ridiculous and the chairs are even worse. Yeah, the skiing here is great, but this resort draws in boat loads of clueless families who don't know a good vacation when they see one. That means that doubles cannot hold that much capacity. The restaurants are cheesy and the village itself is just stuck in the 70's. The condo's need a serious remake-over. The main lifts need to be replaced and the lodges need to be gutted. I am pretty sure every other resort in New England is nicer than here. This place has a lot of potential, they just need to keep up with the times.
Even the cheap deals come with a price, especially at Smugglers.

Hello - We're glad that you found the skiing at Smugglers' to be great, but disappointed that there were other aspects of your stay here that dissatisfied you. We try our best to remedy guest dissatisfaction whenever possible as quickly as possible and therefore hope that guests will bring any issues to our attention during their stay. We're sorry that your stay fell short of expectations.

This was our first stay at Smuggs, although we have driven along that route many times before.
We had a three bedroom unit in the Tamarack which proved to be super. We had a 94.5 year old woman with us and the main floor was perfect for us. The unit was extremely large with a flat screen TV in every room including the master bathroom. We could not use the facilities on the property because the weather did not co-operate. However, the surrounding villages were interesting to visit. We ate some delicious meals in the local restaurants. We really enjoyed the view of the mountains with a sprinkling of snow on them. The road from Smuggs to Stowe opened the day we got there and the resorts along the way were lovely to see, as well as the narrow winding road. Highly recommended for seniors as well as families. We wanted to book for a two week period this next summer, but there was no availability. So sad!

Room Tip: There are newly renovated rooms on the property, with the paint still wet...so we were told.

It was our first time at Sugglers notch. Original we were going to go to Cape Cod but decided to do something different this time. Somehow we found Smugglers Notch on internet and decide to go. We were not disappointed and kids had a blast. There were number of pools to use, several days that we were there it was raining but the pools are headed and once kids jumped in the pool they were warm and comfortable. We did zip lining and took hikes were there for 5 days and each day was fun. Resort does organize some activities for the afternoon. Condo we stayed had a full kitchen with regular size appliances, so we ended up preparing meals our self. But there are several restaurants on Campus and some in surrounding towns.

Room Tip: Each condo is different and you can request different unit when you do your reservation. We actual...

Hello - We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay and that everyone in your family had a good time. Our outdoor pools are indeed heated and quite comfortable through the summer and early fall. You mentioned putting the full kitchen to use; each of our vacation condominiums does have a full kitchen, giving visitors the flexibility to dine in or dine out at one of the resort or area restaurants. Thanks for giving Smugglers' a try as first-timers, and we hope to see you again soon!

My husband and I won a weekend getaway through our local radio station. I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never been to a ski resort. Our stay did included complementary lift passes which we did not use as we are not skiers. I was definitely disappointed that they didn't offer us something in exchange. The staff was fabulous especially after a 3.5 hour drive. They gave us recommendations for dining and were generally down to earth. We stayed in a studio in Liftside which was quite cozy. One problem I do have is the bed. I cannot wait to sleep in my own when I get home. The mattress was extremely hard and the pillows extremely flat. I definitely will be hurting. The other thing that disappointed me was no free wi-fi. I really looked forward to reading on my kindle but unfortunately I could not download any of my books. The food on site was okay but nothing outstanding. If you are hungry I definitely recommend asking locals of nearby places.

Hello - How fun that you won a stay as part of a contest! Thank you for sharing the kind words about our staff. We're very sorry to hear that while you found your vacation home to be comfortable and cozy, the bedding was not to your liking. We try hard to ensure that our homes are comfortable for our guests in every way and apologize that in this instance a home fell short.

We appreciate your review.

I booked a last minute deal from RCI. We stayed in the Falcons Building 3 bdr. The condo was clean and spacious. We had a view of the ski area. We had no coffee maker, called the front desk and had one within 10 minutes.
We went to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream, the cider mill, Cabot cheese and the chocolate factory.
Do not do the sales pitch from Whydham for 100.00 it is not worth your time and effort. They offer you to buy a point system. They do not tell you much about it just how much you are spending for RCI and how much you will save if you convert to their points. Oh, you can still stay with RCI. Tell me how do you buy their point system for $30,0000 and still have RCI and save money. You just don't get suckered in. They do own the Owls and Taramacks Buildings. We would stay here again but will not get suckered in by people that don't give up when you say no.

Room Tip: If going through RCI, try to reserve the Suites at Smugglers, they are the newer units.

Hello - Thank you for choosing to stay at Smugglers' through RCI. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your Falcons condominium; its "perch" on the hill in our West Hill neighborhood yields wonderful views in any season. Fall is a great time to see the sights around Vermont, and visiting the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, the Cold Hollow Cider Mill and the Cabot Cheese outlet are definitely popular stops with our guests. We appreciate that you chose Smugglers' for your getaway and hope to see you again sometime.

We chose Smuggler's Resort for our Thanksgiving week with our entire family (14 children and grandchildren) in April, and after being here for two days we are very pleasantly surprised! We have five units in three separate buildings, and they are not far from one another at all. We can also walk to the center area, to the pool, and to the lifts for the mountain.
The only thing we will need to drive to is Arbortrek for zip-lining, and that is maybe five minutes away.
One of the restaurants is closed for renovations but those that are here are very good, and Jeffersonville is five miles away and has everything you might want in stores, supplies, gift shops, and restaurants...what more do you need?
All staff has been courteous and helpful, the wi-fi works well, and each of the units are in great shape, and are as advertised, all two bedrooms, two baths which sleep from 6-10 people. They are clean, and extremely well equipped for the amount of people they sleep.
Can't wait for our kids to get here tomorrow for the rest of the week, and we're hoping the upcoming storm will give us lots of fresh snow for skiing and snowboarding!
We're glad we chose Smuggler's as it fits the bill for large families!

Room Tip: We are in Oaks, two units in Balsams, one unit at Liftside, and one at Villmarksauna. All buildings...

Hello - We are honored to have been the gathering place for your family's Thanksgiving celebration! Very glad to hear that the lodging and amenities suited your family. Many extended families do choose Smugglers' for the variety of lodging available. We offer the option of separate units, which you experienced, or depending on the family size, a group stay in one of our four or five bedroom homes can also be a comfortable setting.

You referred to the incoming snow. Mother Nature did indeed deliver, adding to the efforts of our snowmaking team to ensure a good early season ski and ride experience. We hope you enjoyed the ArborTrek zipline canopy tour - a memorable experience and a bird's-eye look at our natural surroundings.

Thank you for sharing your review.
