The accommodations were great (we stayed in the Golf cottages), and the waterpark was clean, fun, and safe. The slopes... Well, they could use improvement. Two of the three days we were there the Tram and both lifts going to the upper (read- nicer) slopes were closed due to windy conditions. Only on the last day, when the wind chill was -45 degrees, were they open, and it was prohibitively cold for my little ones to ski. My husband said those upper runs were great. Ski school was not good. My boys, who can ski well on green and decent on blue, were relegated to a bunny slope with some kids who weren't at their level and learned nothing. $110 down the drain.
Restaurants were good, though, particularly the Clubhouse grille. Don't go to the onsite grocery though, unless you want to pay $7 for a box of Lucky Charms!

Thanks for your feedback Teresa and glad you enjoyed your trip. Weather was definitely a challenge (specifically the wind which really limits upper mtn lifts when it blows), and it was certainly a weekend that made us all glad we had an indoor waterpark. Sorry to hear about your Ski School experience and I will personally take it up with the team on your behalf.

Best regards

This place has it all. Skiing, ice rink water park, and golf. Super value. Food was very good and again not outrageous prices. Tasty beer on tap every where. Random good live music on Saturday nights. Ohly setback is that if it's too windy, the resort shuts down the tram to the toop of the mountain. I guess it's a safety thing.

Room Tip: tram house has large rroms and elevator down to a restaurant.

Glad you had a good trip Boston Gringo--the wind really, er, blew that weekend and we had to limit lift ops a bit more than we wanted. Glad you managed to enjoy yourself and I appreciate you recognizing our reasonable food prices.

The slopeside condos at jay are very nice...but the staff that manages them is out of control...examples: over christmas 2012, we stayed at the condos - issues: our 4 day ski passes (10 of us) were issued for the wrong days - which we only found out when they didn't get us on the lifts, we had no working cable or internet in our 2 condos - they promised to fix it 4 times in a 48 hour period and no one ever came, we had no hot water in either condo (1 shower's worth) - that also went unfixed, they never answered the phone at customer service because they were 'too busy'...when we were checking out, discussing the situation with the Jay Condo supervisor (and listening to 3 other families checkout with similar complaints), the supervisor basically admitted they had 'issues'...so, it might workout just fine for you (if everything falls into place) - but don't expect issues to be addressed unless they get their act together.

Thanks for the review pcgwc and you're right--the Christmas vacation period was busy and, thanks to several well timed snowstorms, made for some challenging guest service situations. Still, no reason for that to impact your stay--happy to talk to you about getting you back here. Just hit me at swright@jaypeakresort.com and happy to talk more.

This review is purely for the slopes as we stayed off-site at a local B&B. We stayed here after Christmas from the end of Dec into the beginning of Jan.

Lift lines were relatively empty as soon as the holiday crowd left. The newly constructed lodge right off the Tram at the peak was great place to grab a quick and quiet lunch. The base lodges always consist of a lot of overcrowding and loud noise, so this was a pleasant change. Hope it stays this way!

Also, thanks to the Jay Cloud for graciously puking snow for us the entire week we were there!

Had a fantastic weeklong stay at the hotel. Our room was great and once we got to grips with the fireplace we found using it a real pleasure. We were a large group and our every whim was catered for, in particular staff could not to enough to accommodate one of our party who had specific dietary needs. Reception were also fantastic even when they had to be contacted in the very early hours! The water park was especially appreciated by the younger members of the group who had great fun putting it to good use.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a fire place. If you are a fan of natural light request that you have a room wit...

I stayed here with my family just after the new year for 2 nights and while we enjoyed the resort and our cottage was relatively well equipped but the staff seems very unaware of policies and procedures. There is just very little info available and I found we had to hunt down information which was time consuming and often conflicting. First, our check- in package referred to the in room information binder which was non existent. We an employee when the hill closed and he told us midnight - five minutes later we learned it was really 4pm.

We had a one bedroom cottage with a pull out sleeper sofa. The master bedroom did not have a tv as indicated at the time of reserving (another ill informed staffer) but the little kitchen with the apartment sized appliances was fine for our family of four for a couple of days. The cleaning people could spend a bit more time cleaning - we found the last family's boxer shorts in the laundry room and som Goldfish crackers in the couch. They advertise that you have access to the fitness room at the hotel but your cottage key won't access it and when I enquired at the front desk of the hotel I was told that it was for hotel guests only and that they would "allow" me access even though I wasn't staying there.

I had both kids in ski school - my 8 year old skiied but I found the instruction wasn't great - kind of a glorified daycare with some skiing but alot of hot chocolate breaks and maybe not enough instructors for the number of children at the time because it was either the big hill or the little practise ditch it seemed. My 11 year old snowboarded for the first time and that was a hit. The instructors there were kind, patient and attentive. My son isn't easy to convince to try new things and these guys were awesome - Derek and Ian in particular spent a lot of time and effort with my son and as a result he can't wait to snowboard again.

Would I stay again? Yes, now that I have a better understanding of how the resort works. I think that as the resort grows and settles into the ski season things will improve. Tips for newbies? As others have said - get some groceries before you go if you plan to cook (there is a store that is fairly well equipped but pricey to do everything), use the shuttles if you are not in the hotels - we had to figure these out on our own as well but found them accessible and timely - a godsend because parking is a nightmare. The waterpark is much better than the Great Escape in Lake George and was not terribly crowded in the evening. All in all, good value for the experience, the lift tickets, water park etc are all included as promised so no surprises - just not the best first impression I have had.

Room Tip: Ask all your questions when booking - I was shocked that there was no tv in the downstairs master be...

Thanks for your feedback luvtravelling_13 . We've made a few additions/modifications since your stay and are in the process of completing a few others (including a new round of info books in all of the cottages) which was underway during your stay but, unfortunately, not completed. Given how new these units are, we missed a few of the smaller details and believe we have covered off on them at this point. Sounds like some of the newness has worn off on our staff's ability to accurately communicate details as well. Fitness Center access is included in Tram Haus Lodge and Hotel Jay packages only and there is a small fee for other on-property guests to use it. I will pass on your thoughts, good and bad, to the various department managers so they can be addressed and improved.

Thanks again for your feedback

This was our 2nd weekend hockey tourney and loved every minute of it.
1. We stayed at the Hotel Jay and were blown away by the service and quality of our room. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a "murphy" bed in the living room. We had plenty of room for the four of us. 2 kids and 2 adults. The room had a full kitchen and an area for hockey bags and other gear. The overall hotel experience was a 10 out of 10.
2. The waterpark is amazing. Our 12 and 9 year olds were blown away. The lifeguards are amazing and extremely helpful with everything. My wife and I loved The Drink bar overlooking the park.
3. Food at The Foundry was excellent. We had 3 meals at this restaurant and were never anything but totally satisfied. The new Provisions store had everything we needed to stock the fridge and had excellent Boars Head sandwiches.
4. Last and not least is the Ice Haus Hockey Arena. I have been to many many hockey rinks over the years and have yet to find one as nice and comfortable as The Ice Haus. Bob Leonard from the Green Mountain Avalanche who handles the tourneys for Jay Peak is amazing. All the games are on time and the kids have a wonderful experience. Dennis Himes and his staff deserve a lot of credit because they run a first class operation.
