“great renovation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2012

We travelled here with our teens at March Break this year. The new facilities were fantasitic. 2 bedroom suite was brand new and well appointed. Only possible upgrade could be a washer and dryer (but I think that the rough -in was there in a closet).
Staff at front desk were slow, disorganized and a bit inconsiderate. Certainly could use some assistance from their management. This is the only negative bit about this hotel.
With large numbers of guests checking in and out in a short time frame, the management should have been proactive and added additional staff to decrease the wait times (up to 3 hours for some families) and facilitate the process. When I pointed this out to the staff manager, his response was a rather rude "it's busy, and you people will just have to wait until their rooms are cleaned".
An inadaquate response given the volume of guests arriving a departing during that time frame.
Front desk staff were ill prepared and somewhat ignorant of the appropriate communication process (and even who was on duty to contact for answers) as well as who to direct their concerns to. Staff need more training but this is management's job to facilitate.

Room Tip: get the largest room that you can afford if travelling with teens. This way, everyone has their own...

We stayed at the brand new Hotel Jay in late March 2012 in what was supposed to be a ski week. Unfortunately there was a huge warm spell and the snow was melting quickly. The room was very clean and nice. We had a problem with a "misplaced" iPhone while there but it eventually turned up and the front desk staff was helpful in calling and shipping it to us immediately. The restaurants at the mountain were all excellent. The children's ski instructors were great. The water park was fantastic but overly crowded during the weekends. We loved the area and would definitely go back again.

We stayed two nights (May 11-12) at the Hotel Jay with five families to experience the Pump House Waterpark, some mountain bike riding (on some sweet single track in nearby Montgomery) for the dads, running for the moms and of course lots of play time for the kids (ages 4-12).
The condos were very well appointed and the kitchens stocked with everything we needed to make breakfast. The beds were super comfy and the double curtains made for a dark room. Our kids slept on the pull-out couch and after playing in the waterpark, slept like rocks!
As for the waterpark, what a blast! Much, much more enjoyable than any other indoor waterpark we have ever experienced.
The on-site restaurants (Mountain Dick's Pizza and The Foundry) were really tasty and well priced.
Best part, the employees were super friendly, accommodating, always smiling and quick to say hello! After ready prior reviews on lackluster service, it seems that they are stepping it up quite a bit!

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side have decks that make the rooms feel much larger and provide outstanding views...

Thanks for the feedback Tom. Can't ask for much more than rock-like sleeping children as far as we're concerned. We appreciate the note and hope you can make it back to get some more single track at some point.

Thanks again

Our family stayed here as my son competed in a hockey tournament. My only criticisms came before we arrived. The website has very little information of the layout of the rooms, and it was hard to get a consistent answer when I called about availability and pricing.
Our family stayed in a one bedroom suite in the JayHouse which included waterpark tickets. It has a king bed, a murphy double and a couch. The full kitchen was a much appreciated feature, because stores and nonresort restaurants are a significant drive away. Other families who had been there before we wise to this and brought pans of lasagna, and other casseroles to bake full dinners.Next time, I'll do that. Other than a cookie sheet -- all the pots, pans and baking dishes you might need are supplied. There was a Kuerig machine, and a couple of coffee and hot chocolate kcups, but we were glad to have packed some of our own. We did have a large supply of snacks, lunch food, veggies and breakfast food so we were able to round out the evening meals with pizza. The pizza shop was slammed, but very pleasant and effecient. I found the prices here only a dollar or two more than at home. the ice rink is right there, and very nice. We enjoyed watching the games from the Adirondack chairs. The tournament itself was well run. After the games the kids were very happy in the waterpark. If you stay in the Jayhouse you just swipe your room key card once a day at the park to get your wrist band. In the evening there were no lines, and it was very clean. (Despite it being a very booked weekend.) There were a couple of very slippery spots where you came out of the tunnel slides. Overall, it was a great weekend, with a great staff. The only grumblings I heard were related to the high cost of anything food related. Overall, even in the rink, this was true -- but planning ahead this is easy to work around.

Room Tip: Check to see what therir deals are on the waterpark. The new condos are also nice.

Thanks for the feedback Bloomigirl. Sorry you found the website to be a touch under informed. Having it built in Flash has been a problem and a new site, built in HTML 5.0, is on its way. I'd be curious to hear more detail about the difficulties in 'getting consistent answers' as the hockey rates we offer, which are a bit below standard rates, are pretty clear. As to the food rates, $15 for a large pizza and $7 for a sandwich in Mtn Dicks and roughly $12-$20 for entrees in The Foundry (and nothing priced more than $23) seemed intuitively reasonable to us as we set pricing. Always happy to take another look though and appreciate your feedback.

We stayed at the Hotel Jay to take advantage of the new rooms and the 50,000SF waterpark. Here's the good news: the rooms are spacious (we opted for the 1-BR suite), well-appointed/decorated, with a fully-functional kitchen and a surprisingly comfortable murphy bed in the living area..perfect for a family of 4. The views off the back/side of the building are beautiful and they still had snow in late spring. The bad news is the service was lackluster. We encountered a problem in our room (gas fireplace did not work) and rather than addressing it immediately at check in by switching our room, they opted for the "maintenance" route which did not fix the problem. The front desk was not equipped with answers to standard questions about the facilities, hours of operation, etc. and in general seemed to harbor more of a ski lift mentality...give 'em a key and the rest is up to you! That being said, once pressed to speak with a manager, they handled our situation quite well, but again, first impressions are everything.

We will give Hotel Jay another shot...the kids LOVED the waterpark (clean and fun for hours..highly recommend the surf lessons..great instructors) and we loved the landscape but you have to get your service team in shape...in peak season, we better be wowed for the rates I'm sure you will be charging.

Room Tip: Ask for a "penthouse" which gives you the top floor (best views) and request a balcony. Be...

Thanks for the feedback Klynnied. Sorry to hear that your fireplace didn't work on your April trip. Not sure we agree with trying to fix the problem (prior to moving your room) as being representative of lackluster service, but we understand at least the origins of your point. If you wander through most of the reviews here, you'll note that service is generally a high ranker and we're sorry you didn't see that on display.

Glad you liked the waterpark-it's been a great asset and as to your intimation (in peak season we better be wowed for the rates I'm sure you'll be charging.), well, there's enough bad news in the world without buying some in advance, right? In all honesty, our rates are what we would consider wildly competitive with that of folks like Stowe, Burke, Sugarbush (none with the proximity and quality of lodging as well-in our humble opinion) and none of them with a 50k square foot indoor waterpark to help weather-proof your winter vacation. Suffice to say, I set the pricing and I take very seriously the need for approachable pricing. Again thanks for the note and we hope to see you again.

We had originally booked a 2 night water package at a Mountainside condo, that included free access to the Pump House and the Ice Haus. The minute we ( my wife and 2 girls aged 4 and 2) walked up to the condo, I knew we had a problem. What looked like an old and rundown building on the outside, was worse inside. The room was very dirty, stained chairs, rips in carpet and bedding, and despite efforts to revamp the kitchen area with new appliances, the place was stuck in an 80's time warp. Unacceptable!! Needless to say I called the front desk and within minutes we were assigned (with no additional cost and many appologies) to one of the new Golf Cottages. The condo was beautiful, exactly what we thought we were getting in the first place. A spacious 2 bedroom with full kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, washer and dryer, and plenty of space for our kids to run around. The Pump House is very impressive, the staff friendly and helpful. There is a great water play area geared for younger kids, and we almost had to drag our girls away at closing time. The public skating at the Ice Haus was great fun, with amazing views of the mountains. Providing milk crates to help kids and adult skate was a great touch as our 2 year old was able to skate by herself, much to her joy. We did not ski, but conditions looked quite good for the second week of April. Apart from the horrible first condo, the only other drawback is that you are quite far from other ammenities such as grocery stores, and shopping malls. They do have a small grocery store at the resort, but business hours were very limited in April. Thankfully we had brought our own groceries, as we saved ourselves a 20 minute drive to the closest store. Overall a very good family getaway!

Room Tip: Be careful brousing their website. What we thought were pictures of the Mountainside condos were in...

Merci beaucoup Boobola. Sorry you misread the lodging identifications on our website. The Mountainside condo you reference is our entry level price point and, as such, does not have the most contemporary furnishings and appointments. Still, your mention of carpet wear and poor bedding has motivated us to speak with the homeowner (condo units are privately owned and run through our Jay Peak Rental Program) about immediate upgrades. As we, Jay Peak, build newer lodging types like the Tram Haus Lodge, Hotel Jay and the Golf and Mountain Cottages which you refer to (which are fabulous), the need to have condo upgrades increases exponentially as well. Most are beautiful, but some certainly need attention and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Also, you'll be happy to know that we're under construction on a new Vermont Country Store complete with a full grocery, coffee bar and free wifi zone, sandwich and breakfast shop-all under one (admittedly big) roof. It will debut next year and items will be priced competitively with those items you found 20 minutes away. An ongoing attempt, by Jay Peak, to give you everything you need here on campus.

Again we appreciate your thoughts.

Bon apres midi.

Great ski mountain and water park. I was disappointed with the response I received when on our way home, I realized that I had left something in the room. I called three times over the course of two days before someone actually checked into it for me. This person located it and had it mailed out immediately.
