My husband & I travelled for 13 days through Southern & Central VT staying @ 3 different inns (Woodstock Inn & Resort, Macartney House being the other 2). 3MI was our 1st stay. It was good. Not great. We were in the Main House in the "Brookline" Room. Quaint. Nicely decorated. Not an old, boring drab, green or maroon carpet, lace curtain or brass bed in sight. However, we thought the room was a bit pricey (goes up in Fall Foliage) considering our room was on the main road & driveway so there was lots of traffic & also, they're was a bike tour staying there & every morning (@ 7am) they camped out under our window handing out waters & doing something for their tour & we could hear their entire conversations. They were LOUD. We thought that could have been planned better by the inn keepers. On the last night, my husband strategically parked our car under our window so the bike tour had to set up more towards the back of the driveway. It worked but we shouldn't have had to worry about that. Also the bed was between 2 windows & the shades weren't blackout. Jen & Ed (the owners) were very nice & Ed made a delicious breakfast every morning. When we got to the inn though, no one offered to help w/our bags even as we struggled up the narrow stairs & Jen watched & chuckled @ the size of our suitcase. Granted, it wasn't far but it would have been a nice & thoughtful touch. The 1st night there was a frost & it was freezing in our room. The A/C was still in the window & there was a huge draft. We weren't the only ones that were cold (as we found out). We told Ed & he tried to fix it but it didn't work. He DID take the A/C out the next day though but again, could have been thought of before. There was also no turn down service @ night. It's just a small crtique for what might help in the future (they haven't had the inn long). The fireplace wasn't prepared to be used either (as it was in the other places we stayed b'c it's a feature). We got the impression that dinner was the real serious business there & got the most attention & it WAS very, very good. Out of all the places we dined, the food was great but the SERVICE was the best & very serious as well. Jamaica itself is small & off the beaten path. A real VT village. Ecelectic, somewhat run-down in places but with soul & charm. Jamaica State Park was great & we took a 7 mile walk (round trip) to the waterfall. We also ate at Asta's (practically next to the inn) which was good food but it's the atmosphere which was an experience we won't ruin for you. We also went to Grafton which was beautiful & worth going. We liked it much better than Woodstock as far as soulful charm. Anyway - we thought that 3MI it could be a bit better w/a little more attention to detail. I'm sure once they get into the swing of things, Jen & Ed will have everything down pat. Maybe we expected a little bit more from how things appeared on the website & maybe we were spoiled from the last inn we stayed in on our trip in VT (which had amazing attention to detail). Out of the 3 inns which we stayed, this one was our #2. Good but a little bit...I don't know... too blase? So we left there a little apathetic about our stay although we enjoyed our time in the area very much.
