“Wonderful inn in the Green Mountains of Vermont”
Reviewed November 13, 2007

We stayed at the Fitch Hill Inn in late October 2007. The foliage was gone, but we really just went to relax for a weekend. I didn't want to spend the inflated money to stay in Stowe, and I found the Fitch Hill Inn online, it is only 9 miles or so away from Stowe. What a great surprise. This place was awesome. The inn is beautiful and decorated in typical country motifs. There is a sitting room with a wood stove and another room with a library of books, CDs, and videos. We relaxed listening to classical music while reading by the fire. The room, we stayed in the New Hampshire Suite, was great. The bed was comfy and had a nice warm quilt. The room had a whirlpool and a gas fireplace, as well as a mini kitchen, and a sofa. My favorite thing about the Inn are all the little details that the innkeepers put into running the property. Each room has a complimentary bottle of sherry, bath oils, bath robes, soda, and bottled water. Every afternoon, the innkeepers made fresh cookies and hot apple cider. Breakfast each day was delicious as well and three courses!! I will definitely stay in this place again!

We stayed here for 2 nights as a base for exploring Stowe and Burlington.

The host and hostess were very gracious and welcoming. They ran an organized, clean, and pleasant inn. It's a beautiful property. I would stay here again as a traveler.

The inn is close to great antiquing, and the Stowe area, but Burlington is a stretch (though it's a beautiful drive).

Only downsides are:
--our room had a closet shower. Not shown in the online photographs.
--doesn't provide the feeling of privacy. It always feel like you're sleeping in the guest room of someone's house, which is, in fact, what you are doing. I would not recommend staying here for a romantic weekend, for example.

This is my favorite B and B in America. The owners are so professional, so well-informed. Breakfast (cooked by John--retired Air Force--everything runs VERY NICELY!) was fabulous. All special diet needs were met without fuss. The Fitch Hill is more like a boutique hotel in terms of room accomodations (not overstuffed with "stuff!") but with all the ease and simplicity of a fine B and B. They are great guides to the area. And they attend to every need! There were cookies, cokes, tea, coffee on every floor, great flexibility re breakfast, etc. I have never had a better stay in my life, never slept better--I can't rave enough about this place. It is worth a trip to Vermont just to stay at the Fitch Hill.

We stayed at the Fitch Hill Inn (near Stowe/Morrisville) two nights of our honeymoon, and we have NO complaints. Julie and John were pleasant, informed, and capable innkeepers. When we mentioned our energy levels or interests, Julie brought us information on actitivies that fit them. Our room (the Green Mountain Suite) was clean and comfortable--with a quilt made by Julie on the bed--and included touches like bath oils for the in-suite hot tub, cordial with appropriate glasses, and robes for us to use. The breakfast Julie and John offered spoiled us completely--homemade muffins, hot tea and coffee, a baked fruit dish, and a main meal based on eggs. That description does no justice to how good the breakfasts were, but they were fantastic. Let's see--a description of the first day's fruit dish might help. It was a poached pear with two sauces: one made from vanilla yogurt and the other from raspberries. Expand that type of eating to the whole meal. Yum!

Perhaps best of all, the Fitch Hill Inn (ca. 1797, the signs say) was QUIET. You can't know how much you'll value that until you stay somewhere in Stowe on Rte. 100 or 108 and hear trucks and cars roaring through all night.

Fitch Hill was about 15 min. outside of Stowe, and it was much more affordable than most places in Stowe. We'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind trading being slightly off the beaten path for some serious rest and relaxation.
