We went to Lake Morey on July 21 for 4 nights with our children 8, 10, and 12 yo. We LOVED the resort. The food was great (breakfast and dinner were included in the package). They offered 5 menu choices and offered 4 courses for dinner. The the food exceeded our expectations. My husband who eats out for work often at 5 star restaraunts was very impressed. They did have a kid menu as well. We loved the golf, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, movies every night in their theater, ping pong and their bikes. We didn't leave the resort at all. The rooms were clean and spacious. We stayed in the main building and we didn't have any problems with noise. The resort is older and offers a certain charm. We will be back!!

L G,

Thank you for your kind comments. It is certainly a unique location in that once your car is parked, there really is no need to use again until your day of departure. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Enjoy,

Mark Avery

Thank you for the compliments. Oh, but it does get better- you didn't mention our first place finish in the annual Orford/Fairlee July 4th Parade. Check out the float on our facebook page- it will be hard to top next year! Hope to have you back in the future.

Cheers,

I am a middle-aged business traveler and for several years have gone on golf vacations to Lake Morey Resort with 12-16 friends during the summer. This is really a charming, family, lake resort that makes me remember a simpler time. Yes, the resort doesn't have some of the trimmings I expect when I travel for business, but it makes up for it in charm. If you want the hotel to be the same as every other hotel you stay in, so much so that you don't remember what city you are in when you wake up, then this is not the place for you. If you want to wake up to a cool Vermont morning and hear the loons and birds because you could actually open your hotel window, then this is the place for you.

It's quirky, yes the walls are a bit thin, rooms are averaged-sized but tidy. As a frequent traveler I find the bedrooms to be adequate, but not fancy. The attraction is outside at the lake where the grounds are well cared for, and there is a laid-back attitude that allows families, wedding guests, and beer drinking golf hackers like me and my friends to co-exist in lakeside harmony.

We continue to return to Lake Morey because of it's charm, hospitality, setting, and very reasonable cost.

Dear Rob,

Thank you for your kind words. We take pride in our friendliness and our ability to make all groups of people feel welcome. Hospitality has been instilled in me from my Grandfather, and Father as they operated various Vermont properties in strictly a 'hands on' approach. We have always strayed from a pure corporate feel and continue to operate a true family business.

My extended family rented 4 rooms -- two junior suites and two deluxe rooms. The rooms were adequate but not lovely. The two rooms with lake views were somewhat nicer than the suites, though that is not reflected in the pricing. The corner rooms were the quietest, but paper thin walls meant that there one guest could hear her neighbor snoring. The indoor pool is a bit grungy, and the dining room which offers lake views was strangely dank and basement-like. The real problem, however, was housekeeping. Rooms were not adequately cleaned. Wet towels were left on the floor, and fresh towels never appeared. Toilet paper was not replenished. In one room, the housekeeper made just one of the two beds, leaving the other untouched. She/he left a room door ajar, failing to lock up as she/he left.

We stayed one night ... We were in a gardenview deluxe - a very larger room with two queen beds plus a small sleep sofa .. Our was a very very strange layout. I don't know if these are the same on this side or ours was odd - but beyond the beds and the sofa, we had an elevated seating area with three large chairs and side table. It was a huge step up and really served no purpose. It was a big waste of space and should the resort do renovations - these should go and a nice one level living space be set up next to the beds, instead.

Our room was clean though there were some faint stains on the sheets ... these are well worn and should be tossed. THe light switch for the bathroom in outside the door no inside the room.. The rooms should certainly be renovated. They seems very 70's or 80's though I know this would be a very pricey endeavor.

We had breakfast in the hotel the following morning .. It was a decent buffet and affordable and though there were only 4-6 tables taken when we arrived, we never were offered a coffee refill and our plates were not cleared. My husband did that himself.

There were some golf groups in the hotel on this particular weekend - and some of these guys were extremely loud and cursed a lot. We were with our 10 yr old son and had to keep him out of earshot of these guys - who did not give the hotel a family friendly appearance. They were drinking and smoking and swearing when we saw them in the evening. In the morning, we heard their raised voices in the hallway - where they seemed oblivious to the idea that people might be sleeping beyond the doors that lined the hall.

We would and probably will return to the hotel .. You can't not love the view and the grounds. It was cool and rainy when we were here so we could not enjoy any lake activities but i'm sure it's even more beautiful when the weather is good...

Thank you for your response. My Grandfather never believed in architects, rather simply remodeling himself. This resulted in some unique designs, as you noticed during your stay. We are certainly not considered a cookie-cutter hotel. I will personally speak with our breakfast staff to ensure this does not continue. Our golf groups like to have a good time but sometimes need to be reminded of proper manners, which always gets a positive response with an apology. They are all great people who typically come up for a weekend retreat with their friends whose intention is never to be offensive, so please accept my apologies that you and your son were within earshot.

Waking up to sunrise on the far side of Lake Morey with a gentle mist rising off the water on a May morning has to be one of the most sublime ways of starting a day. And talking at night, when retrieving ice from the machine, to Rachael the accommodating and pleasant receptionist who moonlights as a dance teacher is an entertaining way to end the day. In between, Lake Morey Resort has a lot to offer. I could imagine spending a month here in the summer, away from the oppressive heat in the South. I was here as part of a conference, and the resort worked well as a retreat.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a lake view.

The Lake Morey Inn hosted our annual high school prom. The Waterlot Room was the perfect venue for this important high school tradition. The room easily accommodated 100 students, 10 round tables, a dance floor, and a DJ all with a beautiful view of the lake. The buffet dinner was enjoyed by all and the service was professional, unobtrusive and efficient. This is lovely place for a function. We appreciate the efforts of Mark Avery and his staff.
