Marble Mansion Inn
Ranked #3 of 3 Fair Haven B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 7, 2011

My husband and I travelled to Fair Haven for an event and had considered staying in Rutland because he is not a big fan of B&Bs. We could not have been happier about changing our minds. As mentioned in many of the other reviews, the bedrooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, as are the public rooms. The breakfast room is charming and the food is wonderful. We had two breakfasts (over two mornings!) and got to try a little of everything - popovers one morning, waffles the next, with plenty of fruit, yogurt, cereal and juices. The bed we had was extremely comfortable, and the shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. We were able to relax and read on the porch as well. The Inn was a great place for us to stay as a couple, but I think it would also be a wonderful venue for a wedding or family reunion. The grounds are lovely and could certainly accommodate any sort of outdoor affair, with the added benefit of being able to stay over. The Marble Mansion Inn should definitely be on the top of everyone's list!

July 4th weekend without reservations should have been impossible. We lucked onto the Marble Mansion. Why it wasn't overbooked at twice the price is a mystery to me. The cost was competitive, but very modest for the value. Our room was exquisite. Breakfast was King's feast. We absolutely loved this inn!

You cannot go wrong with this B&B! The beautiful well-maintained architecture throughout, and especially in the themed bedrooms, lends itself to a romantic, warm , comfortable setting to spend time together. Rooms have in-room self adjusted air-conditioning which was appreciated with the unexpectedly warm evening we encountered. The bedrooms are spacious, very clean and tastefully appointed. Although we were not there for the afternoon tea, the morning breakfast included with the room met any dietary desire, from fresh fruit selections, pastries including fresh from the oven baked goods, cereals, yogurts, baked egg dishes and make your own waffles with of course, Vermont maple syrup. It was delicious! The owner went out of her way to meet our needs, including letting us pick our choice of room decor. We had a beautiful view from our bedroom of the historic green in front of the Marble Mansion, where we walked on the foot path after an excellent dinner at the Fair Haven Inn which was an easy walk away. We will definitely be back when in the area and HIGHLY recommend this location for others. This is a true secret in the heart of Fair Haven!! Bob and Diane

Room Tip: We were in the Shakespeare room with view of green

Marble Mansion Inn gets right a lot of things that most B&Bs get wrong. It's a historic house that has been decorated with restraint and good taste -- no fussiness. The rooms are spacious with reading lamps on both sides of the bed so that both my husband and I could read in bed at night. Sharon served a sumptuous breakfast, including popovers she had just baked, and fresh raspberries (no eggs or protein, but I bet she would provide them if asked). She was a friendly host without being obtrusive or over-talkative, a problem at some B&Bs. I definitely would stay again.

This is a B&B that I highly recommend. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the rate was reasonable, the owners go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable, and the breakfast was outstanding.
If I'm ever in that area again, I'll certainly stay there.

Wonderful experience staying in a beautiful historic inn. The complimentary breakfast was very good, with home baked pastries such as popovers/muffins hot out of the oven. The breakfast also included cereals, fresh fruit, bagels, toast, yogurt, coffee, tea, and waffles you make yourself. The afternoon tea was also excellent, with homemade cake and cookies. But the best part of the stay was the people. The owners, Greg and Sharon Parke, and Natalie were quite friendly and eager to do anything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. My wife and I highly recommend the Marble Mansion Inn.

This Inn is a hidden gem located on the Town Green in Fair Haven VT. The original owner was the grandchild of Ethan Allen, and subsequently the Allen family had owned the home until 1975. The rich history is readily volunteered by the new owners who take great pride in their beautiful Inn. We stayed in room 1 - The Rudyard Kipling Room. Very comfortable bed and beautifully furnished. Each room has it's own marble fire place, as well as the double marble fire places in the living room! Twelve foot ceilings with ornate plaster crown moulding, 10 foot windows...absolutely beautiful!
Fresh muffins, popovers, pumpkin bread and make you own waffles with Vermont maple syrup was more than enough to start the day.
The Inn is going to be spruced up a bit over the winter and spring. I wish the new owners much luck, and am looking forward to another stay next year!
