Booked this hotel due to the high mark reviews. The price was decent but still was not a steal at $200 per night. Hate the fact the hotel charges an extra $20 resort fee then upon check in, they tell me the indoor pool and jacuzzi are being renovated.

We booked a double beds room, now, by saying double beds, they really mean two full size beds! If you're a bigger build and taller person, you will not be comfortable sharing a double bed with your significant other! Also, the beds are extremely soft.

The thing about this place bothers me the most is the lack if service. I called the front desk twice to ask a question, they left the phone unanswered the first time for twenty rings. I finally had to call back and the front desk assured me there are food services at the poolside. In fact, this was stated when I checked in that there are food services at the poolside. However, we were at the pool for two hours during lunch hour, did not see a single person at sight.

Overall, we would not retire. It's a resort wanna be with a prettier name by calling themselves spa and resort, but don't expect too much!

Room Tip: Spend your money elsewhere!

Dear TravelerJZ68,

You should expect too much from the Essex Resort & Spa! We expect a lot from ourselves and are disappointed when our guests do not have an over the top experience. Please accept my apology for the service related issues you experienced.
Hopefully these did not completely overshadow your stay with us and the pleasant memories will be with you for some time.

I have stayed at The Essex twice and it just keeps getting better! The space is well maintained and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The food in the dining room is over-the-top fantastic! I look forward to staying here again!

My family of six stayed one night in one of their mini-suite rooms. Very nicely furnished and decorated. It was fun to see the kids faces as we came into the "super fancy" room. The resort grounds are very nice with lots of activities. We swam in the indoor pool which is large for a hotel and has a 2ft deep entry which was nice for younger kids. We ate in the Tavern and really enjoyed our meals. There's an outlet mall a few minutes away, with a cinema and about 30 stores. Overall great value for the money and would definitely return. Our kids kept asking to stay one more night!

This trip was to visit family in the area. It is a lovely property on many manicured acres.
The grounds are very pretty with hammocks placed here and there, and vegetable
gardens behind the outside portion of the restaurant. The indoor pool is a very large lap
pool with a hottub right outside. The outdoor pool is on the smaller side but very nice.
The towels for the pools were plentiful and well placed at poolside.
We received a room upgrade as the hotel was not totally booked. The room was very
attractive and the beds so comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with nice
toiletries, shower cap, sewing kit, etc. The room had a fireplace and seating area.
The basic room charge was the same as the generic chain hotels. There is a "resort charge" of $20.00 per day. It was so worth it to stay in such a lovely venue. There was
a wedding there and they had perfect outdoor spot at a gazebo with chairs set up on the very green lawn. My family would definitely recommend The Essex Resort

Room Tip: We had a room at the restaurant end of the second floor, so we had windows on two sides

Stayed with friends during Easter weekend. Unfortunately the heating/air-con kept me awake. First night 73dB (thanks to decibel measuring app) - after complaining just below 70. Too noisy to sleep, so it had to be switched off. Not very pleasant.
No dinner reservation possible for hotel guests. We were provided with a buzzer and told that we would have to wait for 45 minutes. After 60 minutes and no buzzing we went down and asked. Surely there should be the service of calling in-house guests in case of a delay. Other guests were told that ordering room-service would be quicker.
No "How did you like your stay? Good-bye" at check-out
Quality of food was good but won't be coming back

Dear Petra Doris L,

Thank you for choosing to enjoy your Easter with the Essex Resort & Spa.
I am sorry to hear the climate control unit in your room was a disturbance to you. We too have used decibel monitors and have found them to be far lower than your results. Even so, it is unfortunate that you found the levels to be unacceptable. Our guests and locals alike love our restaurants and we are a victim of our own success at times. We have a greater demand than we have space to accommodate. With the warmer months we now have our outdoor patio open and thus and increase in seating space. Please consider a return visit as I am sure we can provide you with the level of service and care you would expect from us.

We stayed here because we were invited to a wedding. Very nice place, staff very pleasant. Accomidations were fine and not to far from down town Burlington. Didn't use any of the activities on the grounds, pool, rental bikes, etc. We did eat breakfast in the restaurant , it was good, but expectation of the food was high, due to the culinary school. My only comment that I have is the noise (people walking/ talking, flushing toilets) from the hall and adjacent rooms seemed louder than other hotels I have stayed it.

The wedding was wonderful. Held outdoors, beautiful day. Reception area was perfect and the food here was superior to any banquet type food I have ever had.

Quiet, friendly and near great shopping. You also have to take a cooking class where you get to eat what you prepared with a fun and knowledgeable teacher. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Having stayed in two different buildings of this complex, rooms in both were very quiet.

Dear GranmaLovestoTravel,

I am delighted to hear you had a great time. Our Cook Academy classes are the single most popular activity for our guests. So much so we are putting in place more Chefs to accommodate the demand. We consider them all our very own celebrity chefs...each one a talented culinary artist that just has fun cooking and sharing their knowledge.
