“Nice Quick Getaway”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

I'm glad to see some good reviews posted. When we departed to take advantage of our Groupon deal, there were some mediocre reviews posted and I was nervous about our stay. We had just a few days and I didn't want to have to deal with any kind of stress or disappointment.

I am pleased to report that the stay was just fine. Some very minor gripes, very minor. But the good stuff first - suite was well appointed if not a bit lacking in character. Great kitchen, TWO sleep sofas perfect for the kids we had with us, large bathroom, etc. Very clean except for someone's leftover english muffins in the fridge and a few random hairs here and there. Hair must be the hardest thing ever to get 100% clean. Yes, we saw the stained carpeting in the hallyways but really that is a result of the choice of a light color instead of the smarter move of a highly patterned dark carpeting which hides stains more. The carpet was clean. Next time I'm sure they will make a better choice. The indoor pool was indeed dark looking but we had no intention of using it - the weather was beautiful! Workout room is small, and the gym at the spa atop the hill has no cardio machines which I though was odd as the machines were high quality.

The outdoor pool, Castle and spa are up a short hill from the roadside Pointe. There is really no place to go for a walk on the property due to its highway location. The pool is small but gorgeously landscaped, almost to the point of feeling European. Next to the pool is a greenhouse building that appears to be used for their workout classes. Much more character atop the hill. BTW you really don't want to walk up that hill unless you feel like working up a sweat. Pool was clean, just lovely. A little on the warm side. We peeked in on the restaurant which was quite elegant, but weren't planning to partake as we had college boys with us who prefer quantity over quality. We did fine with our kitchen and picnicking. Dining in the area is disappointing (other than the well-reviewed Castle). Either high end (The Downtown Grocery) in terms of prices, or completely mediocre (OMG the Cool Moose, PLEASE avoid, yuck). It seems the dining in nearby Chester might be better.

Anyway, overall it was a fine place and a fine deal for our trip. Oh, morning coffee in the lobby, better than what those in-room coffeemakers will produce. And, the place was quite full. Good for them for offering deals in slow season. Loved the $25 Vermont Country Store coupon, kitchiest place ever so stick to the Vermont-produced stuff like the cheeses.

Room Tip: The rear building is the new building - I believe that's where all the suites are. Not much of a...

I got a Groupon deal for $79 for a king room plus $25 off a truly delicious dinner in the "Castle" up the hill. Couldn't beat the price!!! Large room with a basic motel bathroom. Who can complain.....had a fridge and convertible couch too. Indoor pool and jaccuzzi in main building. Spa and outdoor pool up the hill. Breakfast was the best bargain especially after being in Montreal and Quebec where breakfasts are $30-$40! It was $9.95 for a big continental breakfast with scrambled eggs or egg whites!

We obtained a wonderful deal through Snique at at $139. It was a tremendous value. In addition we received three $25 dollar credit vouchers :1 for use with dinner, one for use in the in-house spa for a massage, and another to shop at at the Vermont Country Store in nearby Weston.

The resort is designed around a spectacularsgranite mansion that was built over 100 years ago, as a residence for the Govenor of Vermont. The mansion contains the upscale restaurant, as well as other guest rooms. The menu is excellent but pricey, albeit there is $25? prix fixe dinner option. The food was masterfully prepared and presented by servers who were polished and polite

Most of the guest accommodations are located in several other new buildings situated on the grounds of thiscexpansive resort. A pool, lounging deck and tennismmcourts are available on site.

Our room was very clean, commodious, with upscale appointments and a delightfully comfortable bed. There was also an outer sitting room that was entirely separate from the master bedroom.

This is a fine establishment, perfect for treating yourself to luxury and top notch services at a great price.

We stayed in a 2 queen bed room in The Pointe Hotel. (half price w a Groupon voucher). The room was pretty and clean. The furniture in the room was of good quality. I was not sure if there would be a coffee maker and a mini fridge, I never saw it mentioned on the website, but alas there was... a Keurig machine w Green Mtn K-cups, and a very decent new mini frig. My only complaint about the hotel itself is there did not appear to be a/c outside of the individual rooms which made the common areas and hallways warm and stuffy.
The staff was friendly. They gave recommendations for local restaurants. (Bella Luna A++) .I was made aware when I booked the room that the Castle would not be open for dinner due to a wedding. I was disappointed to see the Sweet Briar Tavern also, inside the hotel, is closed for the summer, but it was mentioned on the website.
I did not use the pool or hot tub inside the hotel, with such beautiful weather, there was no need to. We used the outside pool next to the Spa. I did not pay an extra fee for using it. We just merely signed in at the Spa. My massage at the Spa was very good. We were given a $25 voucher towards it.($115 less $25)
The Spa and Castle are located a very short walk up the hill from the Hotel, on a paved road. If walking that far is too much for people, they are either way too lazy or way too prissy. I think a beautifully landscaped trail with steps leading to the Castle and Spa would be more aesthetically pleasing and a good way to combine the 2 parts of the resort, however.

Stayed here recently using a Groupon voucher. We had a king room - which was a nice size with a small fridge, lots of drawer space - a couch, chair and small dining table with 2 chairs and the bathroom was very clean and well maintained. The pool wasn't looking so good, the hot-tub was out of service, the internet was out for quite a while and the fitness room is quite small. Although the advertising makes you feel like the Castle is part of this property- it is actually up the hill and basically out of sight. If you were to use the Castle's pool and amenities - they aren't "right there" -but they are accessible. The Pointe is basically on par with a decent Comfort Inn - depending on who you spoke with the staff were generally helpful - some more than others. Also, it is situated several miles outside of Ludow, so you aren't really close enough to walk into town. All in all - it was a good deal but if we had paid full price - I would have been disappointed in the level of the "amenities".

The hotel is nothing like it looks on the website, which focuses mainly on the Castle at the top of the property, We booked a suite at the Pointe Resort and were directed to a side entrance in the back building, where we climbed up stairs that were covered with stained carpeting. The hallway was very dark, and even the room had just one small window in each room, both of which faced away from the sun. On our second day, housekeeping did not come until we called them after 3:00pm and requested they clean the room. When they did finally arrive, we could hardly tell they'd been there because even the used wash cloths weren't replaced. I couldn't help but wonder how often they change the bed linens.

We had booked a third night but decided to go somewhere else even though we would lose out on the cost of the room. It was worth it not to have to go back to that dreary place!

We just returned from a two night stay at The Pointe at Castle Hill Resort. The Pointe, just down the hill from the Castle, offers very spacious and well-appointed motel-type rooms with comfortable beds, clean bathrooms (although the adjustable-style shower nozzle was a bit awkward for my tall husband), windows that open, small refrigerators, and coffee makers. My only quibble is that the TV is quite small for such a large room. Although I didn't swim in the indoor pool, it looked like it might be a bit gloomy on a nice, sunny day. Just a short walk up the road is the Resort, with another small, but outdoor, pool, a day spa, and the castle, built in 1905 by a former Vermont governor. The very elegant dining room is on the first floor (guest rooms on second floor) offers prix-fixe dinners. Although the website says that the dinners are four course, they are, indeed three course, but diners can opt for which three they want, or pay extra for the fourth. The food is well-prepared and the menu offers a fine range of options. Pricey? Yes. Worth it for a special occasion? Yes. Guests of The Pointe will have to pay $9.95 for a continental breakfast served in The Castle.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back as the property is close to the road and traffic noise could be an issue.
