“Very welcoming top-end quality guest house”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

Being a travel agent and having been lucky enough to travel the World over it gives you a certain confidence to judge on what accommodation is quality and what isn't.

We stayed with friends using Applewood Manor as a base to explore the Green Mountains/Lakes region and can say we definitely made the right choice.

The quality of the house was exceptional with all the sitting rooms and dining room decorated/furnished with fine taste.

A really good breakfast was served around a communal dining table which gave us an opportunity to talk with other guests and meet some interesting people.

Hannah's room which we had was very large with THE most comfortable four poster bed along with a huge bathroom. I have never slept so well !

Full marks to Nancy and Ralph as this is how guest house accommodatio should be.

My daughters and I stayed for three nights during our tour of New England and found the whole experience a delight. Applewood Manor is beautifully and charmingly presented, both inside and out, and Nancy & Ralph are the perfect hosts.

We stayed at Applewood Manor as part of a 2 week visit from the UK travelling round New England. Applewood Manor was by far the best place we stayed. The house is in a lovely, quiet spot on a tree-lined road, with picturesque gardens. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious. Ralph and Nancy are very welcoming and will go the extra mile to make your stay a comfortable one. Ralph literally went an extra few miles when he dropped us off at a wedding we were attending in a village about 20 minutes's drive away. Overall Applewood Manor has a relaxing, homely atmosphere and I definitely hope to go back one day.

The first week of October 2009, we spent four nights at Applewood Manor B&B. It is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect for our visit to VT to see the Fall Foliage, easily accessible to the main highway, we were able to take day trips to all parts of Vermont.
The house sits on 33 acres in the quiet town of Castleton, about 15 minutes west of Rutland, the terrace and gardens are gorgeous, and all the rooms are decorated with beautiful antiques and filled with special personal touches. Our room was incredible, and the main living room where we watched TV in the evening was very cozy.
The hosts Nancy and Ralph go out of their way to make you feel at home....we woke up each morning of our stay to a wonderful breakfast cooked by Ralph, and served with elegance by our hostess Nancy... we enjoyed our conversations over breakfast with Nancy and the other guests. In the evening, after a long day of touring on a rainy day, it was like coming back home...Nancy was there to greet us with a smile, and to offer us a hot cup of tea and cookies....She was always available to offer advice, answer questions or just making us feel comfortable in any way. The best part of the day was getting into bed, the best mattress, best pillows and beautiful bedding with down comforters and silk duvets....oh what luxury. Thank you Ralph and Nancy for an unforgettable B&B experience.

Applewood Manor is what every B & B should be, lovely setting, beautiful home, clean rooms, great food, amiable people. Ralph and Nancy obviously love what they do. You leave feeling as if you've made new friends. Though we traveled for business, we hope to make a trip to Vermont and a stay at the Applewood Manor a tradition.

Nancy and Ralph have restored their home with incredible skill and personal interest. The outdoor rooms are as beautiful as the interior. This is a lovely B&B, and Nancy and Ralph are truly nice people that make you feel welcome and comfortable, going out of their way to see to details. We stayed at three B&B's on this trip and would definitely go back to this B&B again (there was one we would not recommend of these three, so this is an honest review of Applewood Manor). As far as the breakfast, Ralph makes a mean pancake and Nancy a great pot of tea!

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want the world to book up Applewood Manor so we can never stay there again! My husband and I go there twice a year in June and August because of a son nearby. These are probably the most relaxing, refreshing and nature-filled days of the year for us. The inn could be the cover of a book of Vermont and inside it's filled with beautiful antiques and books. Nancy and Ralph are welcoming and make a fabulous breakfast. The rooms have pillow-top mattresses, large bathrooms and wonderful views. The pool is to die for. So many wonderful things to do nearby. You can walk to a diner and several restaurants. Bravo to Nancy and Ralph.
