We tried the Iron Lantern Inn when we were on vacation in the Castleton area. There are many photos around the dining area depicting the granite mining industry in the area’s history.
For privacy sake, we were fortunate to be seated at the end of a row of tables. Since the tables were so close together, it was possible to clearly follow any conversation at any table around the dining room.
We were both quite pleased with the salad bar—it featured many unique items, including German potato salad, marinated mushrooms, and tabouli. My companion ordered a special breaded chicken with asiago cheese entrée. I selected the charbroiled salmon. The server was quite accommodating of my dairy allergy—she allowed me to substitute rice pilaf for mashed potatoes, which were made with milk. The veggie was butternut squash mashed with carrots. The fish was flavorful. The chicken was a bit rubbery and the breading greasy. My companion could not finish the chicken and vegetable, so we had it packaged to take home. We were both too full to eat dessert.
If we ever return to the Inn we will probably order a couple of appetizers and the salad bar. The salad bar is definitely their best feature.
