On a road trip we were taking around Vermont, we passed through Cabot to tour the Creamery. What an enjoyable stop. The cheeses were lovely (we got to taste tons of them) and the tour was very thorough. the Video at the beginning was well worth the time it took and the guide we had that day was excellent. Answering questions and giving us all sorts of information about the process of cheese making. We enjoyed our tour and especially the cheeses we were able to purchase afterward.

Visited the Cabot Creamery with my family June 2010 and had a great time. Very knowledgable guide took us right through the main factory, explaining everything along the way, for just $2. Kids loved it too (ages 6 & 4). Lots of terrific samples of cheese in the gift shop area, which did not appear too small or crowded (as another reviewer had commented), but maybe that depends on the day of the week or time that you visit. We were there on a Wednesday, around lunchtime, and found not much of a crowd there. We purchased different flavored cheeses, that are not found in our grocery stores back home (southcentral PA), and were told by our guide that you can actually freeze the cheeses, and they will keep for a much longer period of time, which we thought was helpful. Great visit!

We decided to visit the Cabot Cheese creamery since we like their products and we feel showing our children how things are made is educational (and lots of fun too)! Cabot is somewhat out of the way, but is's a very scenic ride and it was quite easy to find.

The creamery visitors center contains a shop nicely stocked with Cabot products (and lots of deliscious samples) and other Vermont specialty foods. The tour starts with a short video providing an overview of Cabot and their co-op. What makes Cabot unique is that it's owned by dairy farmers. In 1916, in an attempt to find a market for their milk, a group of local dairy farmers pooled funds to purchase a creamery. This ensured that they would be able to sell their milk and realize a fair price for it. This is perhaps even more important today where the government sets the price of milk and by being a member of the Cabot co-op farmers can realize the benefits of adding value to their milk by producing cheese and other dairy products.

After the film a knowledgeable guide took us to the factory floor. Unlike most modern tours where you go through an isolated viewing platform, here you are actually in the middle of the factory and can see and hear the work being performed. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the factory and I developed a good understanding of the cheese making process.

My children loved the tour as well and I can reccomend this tour to any family with kids old enough to walk on their own and quietly listen to the guide. Now when we buy Cabot Chses in the supermarket we can say, "I saw how they made that!"

This is an excellent tour giving you information on the chesse making process and then letting you see the production actually taking place. A plus, too, is the setting this tour takes place in; Vermont farm country. There is also a great chesse shop that sells the product being made. As a side note you can now buy this stuff at Walmart. I love their extra sharp cheddar! And at a great price.

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, down the road a ways, also has an interesting and informative tour.

Great tour for $2, very educational (and it's an actual tour, not a self-guided one). And you get to sample lots of different cheeses I never even knew existed. Yum!
