This place is wonderful. A perfect place to dine on a very ,very cold winter's day. Warm wood decor, fireplace, excellent service, and food. Very hip , not a surprise in cool Burlington . Try any of the local sourced meats, cheese ,not to mention fresh seafood. Excellent wine selection. When In Burlington VT, .... Give it a try.

Winter squash fritters, Kale gratin and radicchio were the best small plates. Service was very average as the plates were brought out all at once. It would of been nice to not have to rush the meal, plus they were out of many of their food selections

There are two Hen of the Wood locations in VT, and this is considered the "more casual" one. In all honesty they REALLY want to be exclusive and upscale more than they actually are…When you try to make a reservation they make it seem like it is so difficult to get in and they only have one spot open and our waitress actually said it was fancy more than once blah blah…not true. It is never full. ANYWAY, once you get past that it is worth it. They have a nice drink menu and extensive wine menu to pair with the cheeses. We started with the Punch of the day that comes with a side of ham to compliment; The whole sweet and salty thing. Very good. They have about 15 (do not quote me on that number) cheese options to start that are $7 each and come perfectly paired with the right crackers and compliments. We got a cow and goat milk creamy blend that came with apple butter and candied ginger and it was fabulous. My absolute favorite part about this place is that is designed for the person who loves food. Their menu is set up specifically so you can order many different things to split and try, and the portions and timing leave you ready to keep trying. We started with three small plates : grilled octopus, squash fritters, and Hen of the Wood toast. All amazing and all set up with things to make your taste buds go wild. We ordered one large plate: Braised rabbit leg, to share. I was really impressed because nothing came out looking or tasting like I would expect and everything was better. For dessert we got "little sweets" which is a plate of five miniature desserts. It was nice and we really chose it because one of the desserts had pine needle topping that seemed interesting. It says online their menu changes everyday, but many of those things are always on it and you can get a pretty good idea from it. Definitely would not miss it if you are in the area.

Pretty good food here. Would certainly go back. Nice bar area and a fireplace, which is nice in the winter. Only problem was that it was freezing in the restaurant...and we weren't sitting anywhere near the door. We asked to be moved, but they were busy and there weren't any open tables available so we ate with our hats and jackets on. The staff was very nice and felt badly about the temp. We were told they were having an issue with their heating system or something of that sort. They did give us drinks and dessert at no charge due to the issue. Food really was delicious and I'd recommend stopping in if you have a chance.

All of the reviews said this place was amazing but everyone in our party was disappointed. The menu was very limited. The servings were ridiculously small and the food "okay" but not great. The men in our party still needed dinner.
