I’m a non-boarder and totally enjoyed the tour. Originally, this trip was just to visit the flagship store so that my snowboard-fanatic husband can purchase the step-on board that has been out of stock for a long period of time. The tour started with the company’s museum that’s very well organized with the history of Burton and all models the company had created. Then you’re shown through the production floor, seeing how a snowboard is being handmade from scratch! All free!!! You do need to schedule an appointment on the company’s website. The entire tour is about 45 minutes and you’ll be left at the flagship store to see all the products that might be out of stock otherwhere! You’ll definitely feel the company’s passion for the sport and their products once you visit!

Somewhere in between desks and presses, lies a little gem where the history of Burton snowboards lives through one passionate individual, Todd Kohlman. Generous and friendly, Todd took us through the Craig prototype facility, sharing the roots of this legendary snowboard company as well as taking the time to show us around the board building process. If you are ever in Burlington, make sure to take the tour of this facility named after snowboarding legend Craig Kelly, or just drop by and say hello.

The name comes from the late snowboard freeriding pioneer Craig Kelly who rode for Burton Snowboards. Burton has a state of the art design and production facility in Burlington, VT and they offer free tours twice a day. Todd "TK" greeted my wife and I at the door and gave us a private one-hour tour covering the history of Burton and a step by step introduction to the amazingly complex world of snowboard production. Even my non-boarding wife found the tour interesting. For this 68 year old boarder it was fascinating. If you're a boarder and find yourself near Burlington, you need to make it a point to sign up for a tour!

If you ride, you must make a pilgrimage to this Burton factory (named in honor of Craig Kelly). The tour guide, TK, is an absolute wealth of information and super friendly. The museum is filled with Burton history that will bring back memories from the early days. The research and development area is absolutely mind boggling and they are working on innovations 2 years into the future. The staff is friendly and the tour held the interest of everyone in my group from age 6 to 44. You must schedule online for a Monday to Friday tour. A definite must see!

Craig's is the Prototype facility for Burton! Tours are Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only so call a few days ahead. About an hour long tour - free. You learn about how Burton Snowboards got it's start and some history of the company. Then you get into how the boards are made! Very interesting! You'll see boards being made in every phase of the process. The special machines, the 3D printer and how it can make a pair of bindings to try out in such a short time! I really had no idea what went into the design and production of these boards. The staff are very nice and love to answer your questions. And we love the fact that employees can bring their dogs to work with them.....we saw many that day!

The Burton Flagship Retail Store is next door and we spent a chunk of time and money there as well.
