Owner description: Board the ferry to Port Kent, New York for a one-hour boat ride offering some of the most beautiful mountain and lake views in the world.

We took the longest ferry run between Burlington and Port Kent NY, which takes about an hour. The ferry leaves from a terminal a few blocks from downtown Burlington, located in the extensive and very pretty lakeside park.

We took the trip strictly for the purpose of sight seeing. We did not take the car which we left in the free parking lot across from the terminal. Since it was a beautiful summer day, we were not the only people there just to go cruising. At just $5 each way per person, It was well worth the price.

There isn't much to see in Port Kent, other than nice views looking back to Vermont, but the return ferries run almost every hour during the summer. These are good sized car carrying ferries with a snack bar and indoor seating. But we spent the entire time up on deck completely entertained by the beautiful views in every direction.

Recently used the Lake Champlain Ferry system to cross between Plattsburg NY & Burlington VT. We used the Grande Isle crossing (north of Plattsburg) and landed on the island of the same name in the middle of Lake Champlain... then followed Highway 2 into Burlington. The ferry service was efficient and quick... about 15 minutes at this particular crossing. I highly recommend it as it runs year round is reasonably priced, and allows one to see the two cities on either side of Lake Champlain.

The ferry is a great way to get to New York State from Vermont. I grew up and worked on the ferries in college. Charlotte crossing is the best. It takes 20 minutes to cross the lake. It's fun to walk on the boat and have lunch or dinner and ice cream at a restaurant on the dock on the NY side, then ride back. It's a great evening, quiet thing to do. And it's cheap without your car.
Burlington is also nice. The boat ride is 1 hour each way.
