We stayed in the upstairs unit of carriage house behind the Lang House, and really liked it. It was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, although my tall husband had to duck around the vaulted ceilings. The breakfast was quite good, and it was an easy walk into town and Church street.

Lang House was the first place we stayed on a Fall tour of New England and it was lovely. The staff were pleasant and hospitable, our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were just amazing. We really enjoyed our three days around Burlington and despite the uphill walk back to Lang House after dinner every evening we looked forward to retiring to the comfort of our room and anticipating the next morning's breakfast. Highly recommended.

We loved the Lang House, although we do agree with some of the negative comments they were not issues during our stay. The breakfasts were outstanding, the staff was courteous without being intrusive, and the cookies were great.

My spouse and I only stayed two nights, but it was a great romantic getaway. Yes, there are fraternity houses across the street, but it reminded us of when we met in college (and were sparsely if at all occupied in the summer). Yes, there was some street noise, but no noise from the Church Street areas.

We stayed in the Van Ness room also, and loved the layout. No smell was noticed, although we've been in a lot of older (before 1900) houses before, so maybe it was us. The room was cozy and nicely appointed, with a small turret room that had a great view.

For our purposes, the Lang House was perfect and we hope to go back some day. We also liked the town of Burlington and the Church Street area, and sampled the Five Spices restaurant (crowded but good food). Burlington has an excellent fireworks display around July 4th, so that was a highlight of our trip.

As another person mentioned, we saw the Windham and were very happy we didn't stay there! Price was only slightly higher at the Lang House, with full breakfast and cookies included. There are a few other B&B's affiliated, and we may try them if we drive up. Transportation by train then taxi to the Lang House was very simple on this trip.

We spent 2 nights in the Van Ness room. It's the corner room on the top floor. It's a cute room but in needs of new uphostlery/furnitures. It even smells old. There was no space around the sink for anything. Being on the main street, it was pretty noisy, even with the windows closed. On the positive side, the location is great, with walking distance to the Church Street Market Place. Breakfast was great with very friendly staff and excellent menu.

So many improvements have been implemented since this review was posted, including new storm windows and installation of heavy, period-appropriate velvet curtains to help minimize city noise. The Lang House is situated on Main Street and we do not hide the fact that guests might hear noises associated with being in a city setting.

My wife and I were in Burlington for a wedding during the Labor Day weekend in September. Although the wedding party chose the Wyndham as their hotel and blocked rooms there for out-of-town guests, we simply refused to stay there especially after reading all of the horrible reviews that people left here on Trip Advisor. We originally wanted to stay at the Willard Street Inn but they simply would not budge on their three-night minimum stay requirements. Even though the Lang House had the same minimum stay requirement, they were nice enough to waive it (we were only staying two nights). After all, no trip to Vermont is complete without staying at a wonderful inn or bed-and-breakfast. Simply put, the Lang House was wonderful. The house itself only has a handful of rooms and is for the most part quiet - the only time you'll see other people will probably be at breakfast in the morning. Never a problem with parking which is ample and located immediately behind the house. The staff was very courteous, polite and helpful; the property itself was absolutely immaculate and spotless; the room and bathroom (Fisher, Room 204) were very comfortable (not luxurious or extravagant in any way but very clean and charming in a victorian-era feel) and finally; the breakfast each morning was superb and expertly prepared with fresh ingredients some of which I believe come from the small garden behind the house. The first morning, breakfast started with bread pudding with caramel sauce and we both ordered the entree of poached eggs with fresh pesto sauce & fresh fruit; the second morning we started with a small cinnamon muffin and the entree was brioche french toast. There were two or three different entrees to choose from each morning. They seem to only put out cookies around 2:00pm each day and it would be nice if they rotated some different choices to keep the selection fresh and interesting (my wife would have loved freshly made whoopie-pies that they make at the Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunkport!). As other reviewers have noted, the inn is located on Main Street which is very busy and within a five minute walk from downtown. Even though I balked(!) when my wife said that she wanted to walk it, I was surprised at just how close it was. Downtown and Church Street in particular are literally just down the street about two or three blocks. What other reviewers have NOT noted, however, is the fact that the Lang House is nestled between several different fraternities or sororities, presumably related to UVM although there are other colleges in the immediate area. The first night (Friday) was fine and was very quiet but on Saturday night we could hear people all night long (and we were in the Fisher room in the back of the house which we were told was one of the most quiet rooms in the house) but I wouldn't let that dissuade me from staying here again. Overall, the inn reminded me of a much larger luxury operation which was scaled or shrunk down into a small bed-and-breakfast package. We loved it here and would definitely stay at this property again although the next time we will probably stay at the Willard Street Inn just to give it a try. N.B. - Before we left town to return home on Sunday, we drove by the Wyndham and thought... thank GOD we didn't stay there!!!

We stayed at the Lang House in mid December. The house is in a very good location to downtown with a short walk to the shopping streets and beach front. The common areas are very nice and the help was decent. The breakfasts were excellent and room service was really good. (I had a bad cold at the time and they were just GREAT about helping) I would stay there again....

The Lang House is situated on a hill above the center of Burlington, Vermont. Its location affords easy access to the interstate highways, local routes, and the ferry that crosses Lake Champlain. The walk to Church Street, the pedestrian town center with restaurants and shops, takes approximately ten minutes, but beware the steep incline if you're not fond of walking. A drive into town would take one to two minutes and ample parking is available.

The rooms are all nicely appointed in 19th century Victorian style. Don't expect a lot of closet space or large bathrooms, but do expect the rooms to be clean and pretty. They've done a good job of bringing the place together to feel welcoming and comfortable.

Some of the rooms offer a "view of Lake Champlain," but I would not select a room based on this attribute. We stayed in #302, the Van Ness room, which boasted "excellent views of lake sunsets." The picture I've attached here does show the nice view from this room, but it's likely the *only* view from The Lang House, and you have to stand at the window to really see it. The Vincent Room, also on the third floor, has "winter" views of the lakes, likely because the trees lining the driveway block the view until their leaves fall. Remember that there is no elevator in The Lang House, so if you do opt for a third floor room with a view, you'll have to walk three flights of stairs with your luggage to see it. I suggest you select a room based on the pictures at their web site. Just pick the one that looks nicest without worrying about a view. I don't think you can go wrong.

As other guests have noted, The Lang House is on a busy street and the traffic noise can be loud. It's a small town, so almost no one is out during the night, but trucks and other vehicles heading into the center begin rolling by at about 5am. We found that by keeping all of the windows tightly closed (which is a shame in Fall when the weather's so nice) we could sleep through it. The noise reduction machines they offer are a nice gesture.

Breakfast at The Lang House was tasty each day. They always offered a variety of options, including eggs, meat, pastries, and staples like yogurt and granola. Their omelets with local goat cheeses and fresh tomatoes were excellent and my not so culinarily inspired husband was able to find a good stock of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast each morning. They also leave out jars of juice, pots of coffee, and several newspapers so you can linger.

The staff was friendly and helpful. There was always someone available for questions from early morning through 9pm. We arrived after hours on a Sunday and the front desk person was very helpful as we called ahead from the road to let them know about our late arrival. The after hours procedures were clearly stated and helpful notes were posted in appropriate places (like the back door entrance) to help us find our way.

The location, comfortable historic atmosphere, helpful staff, and good food all make this an excellent choice for your stay in Burlington.
