“An excellent New England inn”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

A lovely Victorian house, well furnished and decorated in accordance with the house's heritage, with a warm welcome to match. We felt completely at home in this charming inn, which was comfortable, clean and friendly. Breakfast was very pleasant, with a short but interesting menu that changed every day. Service was attentive and homespun at the same time. The inn offers New England craft bottled beers, along with wine and cheese. The town's main street is a couple of blocks down the hill, a 10 minute leisurely walk. We would recommend this little gem to anyone.

Lang House is beautifully restored and well appointed. our room was extremely comfortable. great bed! It's a farther walk to restaurants, etc than I expected (and the walk home is straight uphill), but the great room and delicious breakfast were worth it. there are a few fraternity houses nearby, but on a weeknight we didn't hear a peep.

We've now been on this road trip for three and a half months, and are becoming really good judges of B and Bs, and this one rocks. It was built by a lumber baron, so the wood work it off the hook and while it wasn't the most expensive in the house, the Reed room was huge with a California king bed, lovely fireplace, inlayed floors and a quirky very cool bathroom, along with fast wifi and a flat screen TV. The more expensive rooms must make your eyeballs spin. Everything was in perfect condition, beautifully decorated and sparkling clean. Breakfast was between 8 and 10 (made to order when you showed up), with coffee and tea set out really early if you wanted some to take to your room. A great location and plenty of free parking completes the deal.

Room Tip: The Reed room is one the first floor if you don't want to deal with steps.

A charming old b-n-b with excellent access by foot to the heart of Burlington. We had the Captain's room, which is the largest and most posh in the house. Very comfy bed, cozy reading nook in the room with a view out over the main street into town and a peek-a-boo view to the lake. Bathroom was a bit awkward with the door hitting the night table when closing, but it's an old place so one overlooks these things. Breakfast was wonderful with good choices. Price a bit much for offering, but a pleasant stay nonetheless.

Most of the common space in the inn is comfortable and clean. Sometimes these spaces are not available. I can understand the reasoning for late night use of the space, so that guests in the first floor room are not disturbed. But when we arrived for a scheduled (you sign up for a breakfast serving time) 8am breakfast, the doors to the dining area were not opened until after 8am. This did not occur on the second morning, but I wonder if coffee is served at 7:30am are guests expected to stand in the hallway? Breakfast was average compared to other inns I have stayed.

The rooms could use some attention. I found the bed warm due to a foam pad on top of a old mattress. I just couldn't get comforable. We stayed in the Van Ness room. The room was a nice size. Some of the furnishings could be refinished or replaced and there was a slight smell, similar to what you might find in an store selling antiques. The exterior could use some attention also.

The location is about a 15 minute walk to the Church St. marketplace. Service from staff is acceptable, but you won't get the feeling that you are in a property of a proud inn owner.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding of our need to limit late night use of the common areas so that guests in the first floor room are not disturbed. Your comments helped us to re-evaluate how we approach the common areas in relation to all of our guest needs. Previously we limited access to the dining and living rooms to diminish noise at night and in the morning for guests sleeping near the common areas. Based on your feedback we have modified access to the common areas in the morning.

We didn’t have an opportunity to speak with you about your assessment of our breakfast fare. We are always interested in receiving constructive criticism, especially because we take great pride in our breakfast fare. It one of many reasons why many guests return to the Lang House.

Since 2009 we have spent a sizable amount toward numerous upgrades and improvements to guest bedrooms and the physical plant. The Lang House in an old, Historic home which requires constant TLC. I have owned the property for nearly ten years and take great pride in the operations of this property and business. Thank you for your observations on how we can improve and become an even better inn property.

Charming and cozy and convenient to downtown. We stayed in the carriage house room which might be your best bet when school is in session if you like quiet.
Breakfast was delicious and served by a friendly, talkative young woman.
Coffee is brought out to the carriage house early in the morning and cookies in the afternoon.

Looking at Vermont B & B's, you might think they are all very similar. The Lang House, right on Main St, goes that little bit further! We arrived before the official checkin, after a long couple of days of travelling. We were greeted and welcomed by very warm and friendly staff. We were checked in an exploring Burlington within minutes! The Inn is charming. Completely charming. We had the Capt Lyon room, which was quite literally huge! The king sized four poster bed left ample room to sit in the comfy arm chairs or dress for the evening. The wine list is quite something for an in, and the breakfast- what a treat!
