My mother and father both grew up in Burlington, and my grandparents and aunts/uncles/cousins still live there, so I am a frequent visitor. This last visit, I went to do some shopping downtown and had a blast. It's no secret why they call it Church St. - there is a huge church at one end of the pedestrian mall. Church street is reminiscent of old time main streets - two- and three-story brick building, shops on the ground floor, apartments above. The whole area is a pedestrian friendly zone, as thru-traffic is only allowed on two or three streets that intersect Church, but not allowed on Church itself. It is a mix of shops and restaurants and more, with the entrance to Burlington Town Center mall (most of which is underground - well disguised) towards one end - something for everyone. For heavy duty shopping, I'd probably stick with the mall, but it is a great diversion to spend a few hours there. Check out the website for a full listing of stores and events.
