“A great place to meet your friends”
Reviewed February 15, 2012

The Bristol Bakery has been going for very many years, with changes in both the ownership and the building. When I first arrived here in 1985, it was a relatively small place, sometimes nowhere left to sit except outside (in good weather) or in your car. In the past few years it has expanded both its space and its menu. There are always great lunch specials, soups and a selection of specialty coffee drinks. Their baked goods are hard to beat, if you just want a cup of tea or coffee and a muffin, scone, or croissant. There is a selection of much fancier cakes, too, and I have bought some of them for birthday parties - no one has ever complained...the counter service is competent and your order will be brought to your table if you are eating in. And if you are alone with your laptop there is wifi!

“A good place to sit and work”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

I'm sitting in the Bristol Bakery and Cafe as I write this.

As a graduate student spending the summer on the Bread Loaf Mountain, I value a good cafe. Bristol Bakery and Cafe fits my criteria for a good place to get some writing done. One can purchase a pot of tea for $2.25 (try the Irish Breakfast...nearly as good as what I've had in Ireland), pull up a window stool and hunker down for a few solid hours of work. There's inoffensive music in the background, interesting characters wandering by, and the pastries are pretty solid. This is not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination, but for a caffeine addict who needs some background noise to write, the Bristol Bakery and Cafe fits the bill.

“Skip it”
Reviewed May 22, 2010

This is one of those places that survives on its "vibe" instead of good food/drinks. The straw the broke the camel's back were the pieces of egg shell in my French toast. If all you want is a cup of coffee, this may be your place. If you want something good to eat, go to Cubber's down the street.
