“B & B at its best !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

One would be hard pressed to find a B&B that was better than the Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast. The food, the accommodations, and the inn's location to town should make this place a traveler's number one choice when touring in South Eastern Vermont. This inn is the perfect place for a romantic get-away; a great place to park the car and walk through town or hike the nearby, picturesque country trails. So much to say here, but so little space. In short, whether one is a seasoned B&B guest or a newbie to the B&B experience the Forty Putney should be on one's "A" list for places to stay.

Room Tip: The Ripley is the largest, but all the rooms are good.

We stayed in Forty Putney Road recently and loved it! Rhonda, the Innkeeper went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The Inn and gardens are lovely and well maintained. The food was excellent. We will definitely visit again!

My husband and I stayed at the Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, as well as my 7th year as a breast cancer survivor. We had never stayed at a B&B before. Wow!! The innkeeper Rhonda is an excellent host, we were treated like royalty. The main house is beautiful, comfortable and immaculate. We stayed in the Maple Room which is located in what used to be the Carriage Hose. The room was wonderful, had a gas fireplace and pretty furniture. Breakfast was a two course gourmet breakfast made by Rhonda, it was fantastic.
Kristen was extremely helpful about our questions regarding the Brattleboro area. She is a bubbly, lovely and beautiful young lady. Both Rhonda and Kristen went out of their way to make our stay wonderful! We were so impressed we already booked the Maple Room for the same time next year to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversay!

Room Tip: If you want additional privacy choose one of the rooms in the Carriage House.

Forty Putney Road has an air of formality and sophistication that seems gently to call for respect. We recommend the largest room, the "Ripley Suite," originally the master bedroom (with an added rollaway-bed it can accommodate three persons). The bathroom was large, everything was very clean, and the furniture was comfortable. I was driving fastidious European friends through Vermont, and 40 Putney did not disappoint. They loved the manicured garden, the selection of DVDs, the billiard table, the bathrobes, the exceptional breakfast, the free stuff and most of all the proprietor, Rhonda. Now they want to return and spend a whole week there. [PS: although the atmosphere is on the opposite end of the spectrum, the Chelsea Royal Diner across town I swear has the best ice cream in the world. If you like fried fare and hamburgers, their food is surprisingly good too, both indoors and outdoors. Funky, but highly recommended.]

Room Tip: Ripley Suite is the largest in the main house.

My husband and I spent a night at Forty Putney Road when we were in VT for a wedding. Rhonda accommodated our early arrival and had turned up the AC in the room because it was very hot and she knew we had to get ready quickly. She gave us a quick tour of her comprehensive amenities -- self-serve tea and coffee for early risers, a separate room with a microwave and water cooler, dvds on book shelves, a pool table, a cute little pub, and more! Our room was spacious and featured comforts that aren't normally found in small inns -- a fridge, big robes, a large sitting area, and delicious free snacks. Rhonda had clearly given a lot of thought to what guests might want. We felt very well looked after!

We stayed in the carriage house and loved it. Would definitely go back. Felt very pampered and well cared for all weekend.

Rooms are very sweet, clean and come with complimentary snacks and soda/water. Such a nice change from paying for a snack from a mini bar. Beds were soft, decor was sweet and bathrooms were spacious with nice showers. Couldn't have wanted anything more!

Breakfast was delicious and the staff working there and owner are incredibly attentive and sweet.

Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Really an all-around gem.

Room Tip: The two rooms in the carriage house are very sweet.

Young couple here- we stayed here the weekend after Christmas as a romantic getaway- emphasis on the getaway- and had the best experience. I think other reviewers have perfectly summed up the atmosphere and service of Rhonda and her family at Forty Putney Rd. but wanted to chime in- if you are staying in Brattleboro, especially during winter, THIS is the place. Breakfast is amazing, a three course treat, this historic house is the epitome of comfort and charm.
