Latchis is a neat historic hotel and in general isn't bad but could use some updating.

The room I stayed in had a problem with the heater. I turned it all the way down but hda to open the windows in order to cool the room down. I was thankful it was 15*F outside or the room would not have cooled down. The staff was very nice and super friendly. I would stay there again,

Thank you for your review and for staying with us at The Latchis Hotel.

As with any 70 year old heating system it is built to provide heat. Turing it down will work after the radiator has had time to cool and this can take some time. This is one of the trade-offs that we deal with for having historic properties.

We have made it a practice to turn the heat down during housekeeping so that the guest can slowly turn it up as they require.

We look forward to your next stay with us.

We wanted to leave the car and walk around Brattleboro and this is one of the few choices for that. I expected a little more from an art deco building and the common areas weren't bad, but the room was very basic and kind of spartan. Room was very hot but we turned off the radiator and opened the window so it was fine. Super old tiny TV with a remote that only half worked, plumbing not the best (hot water took a long time, weird noises). Women checking us in were very nice, wireless was good, and we liked not having to wander far for food, drink and shopping in Brat.

I appreciate your review of The Latchis Hotel. We are in a great location and our guests love The Latchis for that and many other reasons.

As for the rooms being spartan, we are keeping with the 1938 historic fell of the facility as people will expect us to. That time period was not known for it's spartan decor. However we do attempt to add creature comforts when applicable without taking away from the vintage feel.

The TV's are in the process of being replaced over the next year with nice new flat panel units. Brattleboro is a busy town with a lot to do out and about so TV's are not really a high priority for most of our guest. But they are an important amenity and will be replaced soon.

Checked in easy and friendly. We liked the nearly antique maple furnishings, and fresh art on the walls. All was clean. Plenty of heat. Great view of the river and mountain. Tip: go for the top floor.

We got the package deal with movie passes and retaurant gift certificate and really nice continental breakfasts. Much better deal than the B&B's we usually haunt.

We shopped, saw our free movie, found great food, and the Co-op's right next door. The music scene is wild, we found a great band two blocks away on Friday, and Saturday another good band right downstairs in the hotel pub. We even walked across the river and climbed the mountain which gave a superb view of the town.

Had a ball staying here, and we didn't have to move the car once.

Latchis is a historic hotel and in and of itself isnt bad. It could use some updating though.

The room I stayed in seemed to be having an air conditioning problem and that made for a difficult sleep. Also, the Staff there needs to be a bit more receptive and sympathetic to guest issues.

Respectfully, what people need to keep in mind is that hotels like the Latchis are on the Historic Preservation list and must maintain the physical building as it was built. Older buildings have steam heat and the room radiators are regulated by a knob at the individual radiator. If this guest would have called the front desk we would have been happy to direct or assist in regulating the heat. Our staff is VERY friendly and helpful to our guests.

THis hotel is a total dump. Carpets havent been changed since the 60s, furniture looks like its from the Salvation Army and beds are more similar to cots than beds. Stay anyplace else!

WE obviously have an unhappy guest. Our carpets are no less than 8 years old in all rooms. They do get a lot of traffic and they are scheduled to be changed out starting in 2012. Upon personal inspection of our rooms, I find our carpets to be in acceptable order. Those that are not are changed as needed.

In response to the beds, they are vintage 1938 "rock maple" hand made furniture original with the building and are in fine condition. They are not new and or building is not new. We are on the Historic Preservation list and cannot just change out our furnishing for modern treatments. Then we would not be the Latchis. People stay here because the love it here.

I love historic hotels and was very excited to find a great deal on this place. The location is unsurpassed, right in the heart of downtown Brattleboro, and the hotel has a great history. I loved the Art Deco charm and the quirky historic features. The downside is that the beds were not particularly comfortable and could use a bit of an upgrade. The room was also oppressively hot and would not cool down. We had to sleep with the window open. But this may have just been our room. Nonetheless, the room was clean and safe and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend the Latchis for people that love historic hotels and are looking for a great downtown location.

The Latchis Hotel has a great downtown location and the staff was very nice. The room was clean, but there was a little bit of an "ickiness" factor, as my wife called it. There's a historic movie theater connected with the hotel which has some beautiful tile work and murals. We stayed one night and decided that was enough.
