Really disappointed-

Room was old and dated, bathroom looked older....shower curtain mold, etc. Hallway smelled like gasoline or heating fuel. smell appeared to be coming up the elevator probably out of the basement.

Staff was not concerned about complaints. They were very concerned if you lost your room key......I think they said 75.00. It's 2008 get key cards. How many people have a key to your room?

Traffic noise was a understatement. When cars went by it rattled the fixture above the bed so bad I actually removed the globe while we slept and put it back in the am.

never again-

My husband and I stayed here in May 2008 during a Vermont roadtrip. What a lovely hotel! This is an Art Deco building that includes a movie theater. We reserved their dinner and a movie package - for $140 (including taxes and fees!) , we got a room with main street / mountain view, two movie tickets and a $50 gift certificate for dinner. We had a choice of 3 movies (be sure to at least stop into the main theater - it's a classic). The dinner GC was for Adagio Trattoria a few blocks up the main street - great atmosphere and a pasta entree I'm still dreaming about! The hotel itself is a cool building, and our room was lovely. The continental breakfast in the morning was more than we expected and served in the windowed lobby area where we could people-watch on the main street. This was a great stay and the package made it all the sweeter. And where else do you get to stay overnight in a movie theater! An A+ experience.

I have stayed at this hotel several times since 1988 when it was being converted from a hostel for poor folks. A lot of people will not know that history - Brattleboro went through some tough times in the 70s and 80s. The hotel's state has always mirrored the condition of the local economy, and today is quite nice.

In any case, it is a great hotel, still showing the 1930s design throughout. If you're expecting a Ritz or otherwise, please don't even both going to Brattleboro.

If you appreciate a great small town at the entry of the Green mountains in VT you'll be happy. It's a great town, and great entry at the southern border of one of the best states.

Enjoy,
Mark

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and young daughter. My parents were in a seperate room as well. It was in a great location for walking around and discovering downtown Brattleboro. There are many great shops, and a really great co-op store for food/drinks right around the corner. The hotel is older, so you hear alot of traffic in the halls, and the doors seem to slam, but the rooms are kept up. I did notice that there were ants in my room, but my parents didn't have this problem. The breakfast in the morning was really nice. They had a really great assortment of things from great bagels, to muffins etc. The desk clearks were very pleasant, and helpful when we asked them local questions. Overall it was an ok hotel. Not luxury, but sufficient for an overnight.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at the Latchis Hotel. Admittedly, with the limitations of its 1938 design, the Latchis Hotel won't be for everyone. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the historic nature of this hotel, its authentic art deco decor, comfortable and elegant rooms (even if designed for the standards of the 1930's), a surrounding downtown area that is vibrant and real without being boutiqued to death, and a great base from which to explored southeastern Vermont. But, the best part of our stay was the hotel staff. They went well out of their way to respond to our every request. We plan to return. What more can I say?

The only way to describe this hotel is to think of your freshman dorm in college. This is a bare bones hotel. The hotel should be called "Latchis dorms" since the rooms are as small a dorm rooms made with cinder block. The doors are flimsy wooden structures that still require an old fashioned key to open. Unfortunately, the key feature makes for a loud entry and exit as you hear other hotel customers come and go! Also, the flash back of a dorm like experience is clearly apparent when you share a hotel cooridor with in-house staff--in this case, the resident housekeeper et al. This wasn't a professional operation. It felt more like I was temporarily residing with the resident floor RA and her family.

The hotel also lacks security features like a standard peep hole in the door and front desk staff between 8pm-9am.

The hotel offers a free breakfast with the worst coffee I ever tasted in the east coast!

I'd only advise people to stayover on an overnight trip. Otherwise,
enjoy one the downtown B&Bs or rent a cabin!

We stayed one night in this historic hotel one block from the Connecticut River and in the heart of downtown Brattleboro, near restaurants and bars. It is not fancy but was very comfortable and clean and service was good. We asked for a room at the back and it was quiet. One odd thing, there were no screens on the windows, but bugs were not a problem. Breakfast (included) was good enough. We had some trouble with the wireless internet, maybe because we have Macs. Also they don't have quite enough parking because non-guests use their spaces and they don't enforce (we arrived late, after movies had begun at the theatre next door). I would stay there again.
