The Lilac Inn is a great place to stay with a beautiful garden and stellar food. The rooms are very nice and each has their own decor and style. If you get a chance, check out the library and the garden. The owners are very nice and will not interfere, yet do not hesitate to approach them with any questions as they are glad to help! We will definitely be coming back!

Thank you for being our guests and for your kind review. Over our 16 years of owning the inn we have made many changes and improvements in the guest rooms, public areas and, of course, the gardens. In each case, we have tried to build upon the home’s original grandeur as “summer cottage” designed and built for high level of guest comfort and hospitality.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to you return on a future trip to Vermont.

Once again, we had the opportunity to stay in the Grand Suite at the Lilac Inn during our summer visit up to Vermont. It is just as wonderful, beautiful and comfortable as our previous stays. Doug and Shelly go out of their way in their gracious hospitality for their guests to make each visit a memorable one. The grounds and outside sitting areas are perfect for enjoying the views and having some wine and cheese we brought for our stay. The suite just envelopes you with it's charm and comfort and the breakfasts are so yummy to begin your day of adventure.... Thank you once again Doug and Shelly for making our stay once again so wonderful.....

Room tip: Although all of the rooms are beautifully decorated, we favor the Grand suite.... so special for us.

It is always wonderful to have returning guests, especially Vermonters. Over the years they feel like family and we are always anxious to greet them and hear how everyone is doing. This is certainly true for you and we truly appreciate your continued visits and for taking the time to navigate the review system on our behalf. Until next summer…

We had our son's wedding at the Lilac Inn for 3 days in late July, with about 140 guests. The grounds and house are beautiful and handled the large crowd extremely well. (Overflow rooms at the Brandon Inn were reportedly very nice as well). The Innkeepers Shelly and Doug were around and available but unobtrusive. They are very friendly and rightfully proud of their property and very willing to talk about the history of the Inn, as well as the history and exploration opportunities of the surrounding area. The Staff was very friendly and helpful, as well. The food was very good, especially the breakfasts cooked to order! The rooms are each unique and beautifully appointed. It was like walking into a bygone time. Some members of our party went brewery hopping in the immediate area, others enjoyed the quaint beauty and hospitality of Brandon and the local countryside, there is a wide assortment of things to do. We had an incredible experience, overall. I would give the experience 6 stars on a scale of 1 to 5. Because we were busy with the wedding, we will be returning when we can have more time to explore.

Room tip: Each room is different and uniquely appointed. Because of the setting, I believe all rooms are quiet and comfortable.

Thank you so much for selecting the Lilac Inn for your son’s wedding and for your kind comments. When we first “fell in love” with the Lilac Inn, it was because Shelly wanted to do weddings and the Inn seemed like the perfect venue as it had begun life as an 11,000 square foot summer mansion built for parties. We have tried to keep the grand nature of the building, yet updated for today’s tastes with a dedication to providing the best individual hospitality possible. We loved having all of your guests with us and are glad they were able to enjoy some of our nearby recreation and Vermont breweries. We hope to see many of you for a future event or stay.

I almost don't want to share this review...for fear that it won't be my little secret anymore! My husband and I discovered the Lilac Inn a few years ago, and booked a room on the off season. We were so thrilled when we discovered, that because of our timing, we were the only guests booked at the house! We were like little kids, tiptoeing around the place, exploring all the charming rooms (and even peeking in the other guest rooms), soaking up the details of every decoration tucked in the most unexpected places as well as books and dvd's in the library. We gladly indulged and enjoyed Shelly's freshly baked cookies which she left for us in the cookie jar! And Doug graciously started a crackling fire for us in the lounge with extra firewood to keep it going for the night. Twice we've booked a spur-of-the-moment getaway and twice we have been more than pleased with our stay. Breakfast is made to order, but be warned you'll need a hearty appetite to eat all the food Shelly cooks and Doug serves!

Thank you for sharing your ‘secret’ and your review. Our part of Vermont is busiest when the leaves are out from May to October. However, we never close and the winter season is a great time to have a romantic getaway in one of the guest rooms with a fireplace or in our cozy library. We continue to be old fashioned and use well-seasoned Vermont firewood in all of our fireplaces. Even though this home began life as a ‘summer cottage’ it is really designed for year round entertaining of our guests.

We have now changed the bed in Albert’s room to a king size bed. We doubt when this home was built in 1909 a king bed even existed. However, the guest rooms were always spacious and we have changed five our nine rooms to king beds because they are so popular with our guests. We look forward to seeing you on another spur-of-the-moment getaway.

We started our Inn to Inn Biking Tour at the Lilac Inn and what a luxurious treat!! Our room was top notch and Doug and Shelley were incredibly kind and bent over backwards to make sure that we had everything we needed. The breakfast was superb with delicious fresh berries, rhubarb muffins, made to order omelets, and excellent coffee, juice and bacon!! It was a great way to start off riding 30 miles through Vermont.

Thank you for staying with us during your Vermont biking vacation and for your review. Brandon is centrally located in the Champlain Valley for great biking and close to the Green Mountains for hiking vacations. We know how important having a good breakfast is to start the day. We really love breakfast and believe there should be several choices each day to make sure that no one leaves here hungry! We look forward to having you as guests on a future vacation.
