I normally stay in the Norwich area; however, there was no availability so the Lilac Inn in Brandon was my back-up. I am glad I had the opportunity to stay there as it was a pleasure. They are pet friendly which is always a plus and it is situated in a charming town that was lovely to stroll with my dog. I stayed in the Audubon Room, #8 which was very clean and large enough for 2 people and my dog. The Innkeepers were very friendly and well versed regarding the history of the Inn. We received 2 free beer and wine tastings at Foley Craft Brewery which was included free and a delicious breakfast. Make sure that you do not leave before having their breakfast which was comprised of fruit, chocolate Babka, a fantastic omelet with a side piece of ham. We came in too late at night so we were unable to enjoy the cozy bar; however, next time we will do our best to get there early enough to appreciate it. This place is perfect for weddings, family reunions, birthdays, etc. It was a wonderful Inn that I would definitely stop at again when in Vermont.

Thank you so much for being our guests and all of your comments. As dog owners, we know how nice it is to take our “family members” with us as we travel and look for lodging. Also, we are glad you enjoyed our amenities and cooked to order breakfasts. We work hard to make breakfast enjoyable as it is the most important meal of the day.

You are right about our Inn being a great place for special celebrations. When this home was built in 1909, it was a summer mansion built on a scale to host large parties. While many years and owners have passed since then, as Shelly says, "If these old walls could talk, this house is very happy when a special celebration is occurring".

We hope to see you the next time you come to Vermont!

This B&B has verandas for sitting amidst well-maintained grounds and gardens, dating since 1909. Beautifully furnished and comfortable. The owner welcomes guests to explore and relax and simply enjoy. Very pleasant.

Thank you for your review and for being our guests. As we might have told you, we can grow flowers here that we could not enjoy in CT, as the deer stay up on the mountains. We are making for years of being deprived of day lilies, hostas and hollyhocks. Our front veranda has exquisite views of Park Street, which is often called the prettiest street in VT and is the central feature of the village of Brandon.

We hope you can return and relax at a future date.

No need to look any further when you want to find the perfect inn with the most gracious staff. If your on an Inn to Inn hiking tour stay here every night and drive to your hikes ! You will be treated to a wonderful atmosphere of elegant decor, gracious and wonderful staff , 4 star dinners and beautiful rooms. The porch in the front would be enough to please you until you see the incredible garden area that surrounds this beautiful spacious Inn. Thank you all Lilac Inn , Doug and Shelly for your warmth and Troy for your 4 star personality and food as well as all the staff who made our stay the best you could hope for in a Vermont Inn. Bravo.

It was so wonderful to have you as guests while doing a Country Inns Along the Trail hiking vacation. Each year we have more and more Inn to Inn guests stay with us for a biking or hiking vacation and we love getting to know each of you. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay, our meals, our grounds, and our staff, especially Troy. He loved being your server and we all hope you will do a return visit.

My wife and I were visiting a local company in Middlebury and found the Lilac Inn on Trip Advisor. During our search we found that all of the rooms in Middlebury's Inns were already reserved by families for students attending the first week of the Middlebury College fall term. What a serendipitous event! We feel so fortunate to have been able to experience the hospitality and grace of innkeepers Doug and Shelly and their staff. They were extremely helpful in understanding the local area and beyond. The service at the inn was impeccable. The room we chose was the Moosalamoo room, which is very large with a king bed and large attached bath. Most of the room was period correct (i.e. 1909 tub) with modern amenities such as flat screen TV, cable, WiFi, air conditioning and more. We will return again to visit the company in Middlebury, but we won’t be looking anywhere else but the Lilac Inn for our accommodations. Thank you Doug and Shelly and keep up the wonderful work at Lilac Inn!

Room Tip: Each room is unique. Room choice should be made according to personal taste.

We are so glad that you found us while in the Middlebury area. Middlebury is often totally booked because of Middlebury College and more and more visitors are discovering the quaint village of Brandon and our 1909 historic summer mansion that is now a country inn. It was nice to getting to know you both and to help guide you to some of our area's best attractions, such as, the Robert Frost trail and Fort Ticonderoga.

If you do return to Vermont, we hope that you will be able to stay with us again!

Absolutely lovely, both the inn and its grounds. Doug, the proprietor, is friendly, low-key and very knowledgeable about the area. The style of the rooms is historic/Victorian, but with modern efficiency -- everything works and is clean and bright. The room was bright and a good size too. Excellent breakfast.

Thank you for being our guests and your comments. When the Lilac Inn was built in 1909 as a summer mansion, known as “The Arches”, no expense was spared. Even the latest technology of the day, telephones, were installed in every guest room. We have tried to preserve the historic character of the home with modern conveniences, such as, Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

Brandon, with its central location in the Champlain Valley, is a great starting point to explore the hidden treasures of Vermont. We hope you will return for a future visit.
