Description: Warm and inviting, casual fine dining at Café Provence is a truly memorable experience. Located in the restored historic section of downtown Brandon, Vermont—Chef Robert Barral, former Executive Chef of the New England Culinary Institute and The Four Seasons in Boston, crafts our seasonal menu to showcase not only his talents as a chef, but also highlight the best meats, cheeses, and vegetables that local farms have to offer.

Granted we were there at an odd time of day between lunch and dinner but the place was open for meals so our expectations of good service and good food were reasonable. There was one server who was also hosting, answering the phone, explaining the menus, taking orders and serving. Needless to say, even though there was hardly anyone there we waited long for our meal. The man sitting at the bar on his computer had a chef's jacket and eventually put his chef's hat on. He was not the person making our food. The fish and chips was tasteless and greasy. The steak sandwich was tough and part medium rare and part well done. I think we may try it again but definitely at a regular mealtime.

My grandson and I were traveling through New England on an adventure (he's ten) and while staying were referred to Cafe Provence for dinner. I love the atmosphere and the meal was delightful. Our server was very helpful even though you could tell she was busy!

Seafood stew is a favorite but so is some of the lighter fare - a wonderful tomato/carmelized onions salad on a big cracker like pastry or their individual pizzas.

We were on a bus tour and our guide arranged for a cooking demonstration and lunch by Chef Robert, a graduate of the French school of Cordon Bleu, and it "bleu" us away! He prepared Chicken Nicoise while our group enjoyed drinks and salads with a perfect light dressing. Some chose the chicken and were delighted. I chose the Beef Bourguignon and garlic mashed potatoes for my entrée, and was NOT disappointed! It was heavenly, especially with a glass of the house Pinot Noir. Dessert was a to-die-for assortment of handmade chocolate cakes and candies. He was a wonderful teacher and chef of fine cuisine. Five Stars here!

This is a delightful restaurant, with inside and patio seating. For a Sunday brunch, it is wonderful. The poached eggs are incredible: the yoke is perfectly cooked, moist, with a firmer shell around it, to contain it. With salmon or Florentine, a memorable dish. The side salad is fresh and dressed ever so lightly. To complete the meal, the staff is very professional and friendly, eager to repeat and explain the numerous specials. A trip to Brandon must include a stop at Provence.
