“After two stays, we are going to be "regulars"”
Reviewed January 9, 2012

We just finished our second stay with Annie and David, in their cozy inn. We plan to visit their inn every year! It is odd to find a "kid friendly" bed and breakfast, but the Alpenrose is just that. My children are so comfortable with Annie and David that they often wake up before us and head downstairs to chat with Anne while she is at work in the kitchen. Just this evening, my 4 1/2 year old son was on the phone with my mother and he said, "you should come skiing with us so that you can meet Annie. She is the nicest lady in the whole world and she'll make you whatever you want for breakfast." This past weekend we played our first game of family scrabble, sitting in front of the warm wood stove in one of the sitting rooms. It was heavenly.
The inn is clean, warm, and so very comfortable. You go to bed smelling the bread that will be on the table the next morning, and wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee. Anne is an exceptional cook. I have described the inn as kid-friendly, and it is, but at the same time it is totally quiet and peaceful. It is a sweet retreat. I would recommend this inn to anyone!.... ranging from a family with small children, to a family with teenage skiers, or to a couple seeking relaxation and excellent company. It's a gem.

Last minute Christmas search for snow and found a room here at this special spot! Anne and David, Inn keepers. made every aspect of the stay exceptional. From a warm welcome and their insistence on carrying our bags up to our room, to warm fires, kids play/game room, several rooms to relax in, we found a comfortable and relaxing surprise of a get-away! Anne is an exceptional chef and cooks a wonderful meal, started with cocktails and appetizers, then wonderful wines with dinner, fun conversation and just a quality evening hard to find elsewhere!
A very quiet room was wonderful for being close to the stairs and the kitchen action, very soundproof and private. We will certainly return to this beautifully decorated Inn, with every attention to detail give by Anne and David. A must visit!

This is a lovely Inn with approximatly 10 rooms. The Inn keepers Anne and David will make sure you get a relaxing rest. Anne, who used to own a restaurant in Connecticut, cooks delicious meals on a cold winter evening, and a hearty breakfast to prepare you for a day on the slopes.
A former barn with new additions, the Inn allows for cozy retreats into one of the 4 sitting areas, one of them with fireplace. Large dining tables invite families to share meals and conversation. For children there is a separate TV area and a game room. Children feel welcomed and independent in this setting.

The Inn is located on a less frequented but well maintained road. It is conveniently located between several skiing areas, and not far from various restaurants and the shopping town of Manchester. Walking trails and cross country skiing is accessible from the house.

In short: we had a great time.

My family, meaning me (a single father) and my two children have been staying here for the past few years and it truely is the best there is. The food alone is worth the trip. (My 13 year old boy had 3rds of steak and salmon on New Years.) Anne is an amazing chef and David is truely a delightful host and between the two of them, this is the true Vermont B&B the way it should be. The B&B is misleading since they also offer dinner, which is so good, we stopped going out at night. It has a family atmosphere where the adults all meet for wine and cheese before dinner and the kids can head off to the great game room or play any of the 1000 board games that are around - - which the 16 year olds did - - imagine - - they got off of facebook. The rooms are perfect - - homey and rustic and that is all you need. We have met plenty of couples who were on a get away and I think I speak for everyone - - its fantastic.

So comfortable, warm, welcoming - and fun! The inn is a perfect place for a ski weekend. Every room is different, and cute. The food is awesome. And the atmosphere is ideal. Many thanks.

I was out of options for a new years's eve ski weekend wi my twins at Stratton, VT. quite by accident, my assistant found the Alpenrose; a husband and wife run jewel ten minutes from the base of Stratton. The hospitality, food, experience and grace was extraordinary, and remarkably affordable. I am a believer and won't ever go anywhere else...in this day and age of mass produced everything, Alpenrose is a gift from a time when hospitality really came from the heart. Gratefully, Richard Rakowski and his boys..

We have been coming here for several years and it always feels like coming home! Dave and Anne are wonderful, friendly hosts and they welcome you to their homey inn. Our favorite room,Yoedeler, has a queen size canopy bed with a thermostatically controlled wood burning stove in it. Another favorite room is Ethan's Alley, on the first floor, which is a large 2 room suite with its own entrance. Many of the other rooms have multiple beds in them making them suitable for families. The inn has 4 different sitting areas, some with fireplaces, so there is always a quiet place to sit and read. There is also a finished basement area with a pool table and ping pong table. Anne is also very accommodating of our kosher dietary needs. The inn is about 5 minutes from Stratton Mountain. We love staying here whenever we ski in the area.
