Fellow TA reviews pointed us to the Mt Anthony country club for dinner one Friday night whilst staying in Bennington. There are a lot of restaurants and pubs in downtown Bennington but we wanted something a bit nicer for a change.
First of all don't be put off by the Country Club title - this is more like your normal golf club restaurant. Yes, you probably shouldn't wear denim shorts and a tank top, but with golfers coming through all the time in polo shirts and shorts it is not so formal, at least earlier in the evening time.
The staff (and our waitress in particular) could not have been any more welcoming and pleasant and helpful. She parked us outdoors on the patio for a pre-dinner drink and starter and kept us a table inside. We eat gluten-free so she helped with that including asking questions to the kitchen. We had a fillet steak cooked black and blue - very well prepared and a nice cut of meat. My wife's mussels were cooked in a lovely broth and were very tasty. They have a decent wine list and good value prices too.
All in all this was a nice meal without being spectacular. But the service and the welcome was definitely above the norm. We enjoyed this place.
